Who can't chop a headphone lead and connect the wires up to an in lead to a stereo or computer, then record the thing? It really *doesn't* take Einstein.. here's how one could 'pull it off': 1) Get a hacksaw 2) Hacksaw the Discman door open 3) Rip out the CD 4) Burn it 5) Leak it on the net 6) Buy a discman that is exacly the same model 7) Buy some of the same headphones 8) Glue them in 9) Ta da - Epic nor Tori are any the wiser. It's for the benefit of the record company that Tori be interviewed and that there be media coverage of this new album. Obviously the journos want to write stories, but there are other artists out there that they can write them about. From what I've studied, it's usually the artist's producer chasing after the press people who already like the artist in question, not the other way around. ~Becc - -- www.crappism.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Sep 2002 01:16:05 -0700 (PDT) From: Nathan "®" Subject: Re: [oztori] Tori shtuff (amazingly on topic) Rebecca Appleton wrote: > Also crazy. Yes, Epic seem to be majorly fucked in the head re: promotion of SW thusfar. I wonder how kindly they will treat Tori when the album 'flops'.. *snicker* Well - let's be realistic - she ain't a multimillion per album seller. Plus this "Tori's going to win a whole new audience with this record" thing is annoying. I'll believe it when I see it. From Tomshardware.com newsletter: " Epic Records Desperate Over CD Security Epic Records is issuing preview copies of its new CD artist releases to music reviewers/writers in permanently affixed, glued closed Sony Walkman players with permanently affixed, glued on headphones. We'll repeat that again: the openings are glued closed and places that could be affixed to a recording device have likewise been glued shut. Epic claims these measures are necessary to ensure that prerelease CDs are not recorded and converted to MP3 files, then distributed over the Internet, which Epic says happened with Tori Amos's latest prerelease CD. This CD appeared on a file-sharing service on the Internet, even before the CD was officially released by Epic. While these measures may seem an overreaction, the Recording Industry Association of America claims that Internet music sharing files have directly caused a decline in CD sales. MP3 users do not agree with this claim. And considering that the record labels have not yet figured out a way to lock CDs into our players and to trace them, it is unlikely that the piracy practices of some listeners will be impacted by this move. Perhaps the record labels should try lowering the prices of CDs as a more effective incentive to reduce piracy. " hmmm maybe record companies are making no money because most new music is SHITE!.. I believe there was a journo that unscrewed the back of his discman and got out the Pearl Jam cd, to listen to in his own home (at least, that's the reason he gave). Belive it or not, but I hadn't thought of cutting the headphones and re-wiring other stuff to it so you could record off it. You'd be going to a lot of trouble though, and would be sprung upon returning the discman, as Nadyne pointed out some journos had mentioned they were required to do, unless you also went through the rigamarole of Nayth's suggestion, or what I mentioned the journo above doing.
