Birkenstocks seem to have become very mainstream these days, y'know! I remember the days when I'd go into their store (they're supposed to be really comfy) and I'd be the only one there. I do actually like the look of some of them, but tried a pair on and they just felt weird. I can appreciate that your feet wear grooves into them and they'll be "the most comfortable shoes you own", but I've yet to get up the motivation to spend $200+ on shoes that don't feel great from the word go. I can't say I've come across the expectation that I should find certain looks attractive.
