I am not talking about people who like Tori, or would consciously make a decision to buy her albums or even to listen to her. I'm just talking about people who know who she is. That number would have to be up in the tens of millions, if maybe not the hundreds. And while I know I wrote something different, I meant to write "Australia's population" (since it is an Aussie website). I'd imagine that the number of people who have *heard of* her in this country would well exceed 5 per cent. A slightly OT piece of reality pie in counterpoint: I read an article earlier in the year that suggested that in excess of 50 per cent of the world's population has never made nor received a telephone call. - --------------------------------- Yahoo! One who engages in the 'pedantic' behaviour; or the one who provides a dictionary definition of the word of his own free will'? > Secondly, I really have no way of knowing how many > people know who Tori is. Well since you're about to do honours (I think that was you), maybe you can do your study on taking a random sample of the Australian population, and quizzing them on their Tori knowledge, to estimate what % of Australians 'know' who Tori is. Although perhaps this topic is a bit too ambitious for a mere honours project, and you should instead consider saving it for your PhD. However, I'd estimate it to be maybe 0.5% tops. When you consider children & people who are 'old'(er) in the equation.. I mean, hardly anyone I know of actually knows who Tori is. And of course the people I associate with are a very representative bunch of Oooooooooorstraaaaaaaaaayans. Even if there are 5 people who've heard of Tori for every one who bought, say, LE or Pele (and that's a conservative estimate), then you'd be in the tens of millions. (A similar mathematical process can be applied to Australian sales. I can't be bothered going to the ARIA site and doing the search atm, though.) And this is gonna be my last post on the subject.
