Well apparantly they're going to be totally phased out in Australia too very soon except for top 40 sort of material. Contintental Europe however will still be a haven for the whole idea of cd singles, apparantly anyway. I only have a couple of tori singles, I'd love more but they're just so expensive. $20 for a single! It's not hard to justify being Tori and all, but it's just hard to justify compared to the amount of money I actually have haha. Apparantly the advent of the internet and free access to rare songs is being blamed largely for this anyway. In fact, singles are relatively 'thriving' there. The UK is a big singles market. > Well apparantly > they're going to be totally phased out in Australia > too very soon except for > top 40 sort of material. That sucks. Lots of manipulative things are already done with singles by record companies - eg. deleting Kylie's "Love At First Sight" single when it was still in the top 10 so that it didn't detract sales from the album (as album sales are much more profitable than those of singles). > Contintental Europe however will still be a haven > for the whole idea of cd > singles, apparantly anyway. Well where were you when Mark Endacott had his huge bargain sale is all I can say? :P Your best hope is that I get really shitty with Tori and want to rid myself of her singles starting from 5 cents apiece (postage included). I've got "spare" Professional Widow (It's Got To Be Big) german slim-case w/ 5 versions - purple stars sleeve; and UK Glory of the 80's part 2 with mis-pressed b-sides (plays Famous Blue Raincoat live & Twinkle live rather than Baker Baker & Winter) singles if you're really desperate. I'll sell them to you for $19 a single as opposed to the $20 you claim above ;) ("only kidding".. they're not really worth 19 cents). > Apparantly the advent of the internet and free > access to rare songs is being > blamed largely for this anyway. Well the flipside of this argument is that record companies in the US are largely to blame - as singles are all but gone there - so if you hear one song you like on the radio, you either have to fork out the $$ for the full album (risky if this is of an artist you only know one song of/you only like one song of theirs), or just download for free. Mmmmmmmm - wonder which option most people would rather take. If you can't buy single songs, what other option to people have? We have no further details about the single at this time. I hope there will be b-sides with the single! Update: This has been further confirmed by Michael Escritt, who states that news of the single has been posted to Planet Sound on Teletext in the UK. That press release also gives a U.K. release date for Scarlet's Walk of October 21, which is likely wrong. (I think it will still be October 28, 2002.)
