In an entirely unnoteworthy way. She's a fairly newish character, but I'd already marked her down as a good character (just a few small things she said, questioning the status quo, etc). So the fact that she's gay and that's just one part of what is an overall interesting character pleases me. OK, here's the deal with me: I have some gift vouchers from Galaxy to use up before the end of Sept. However, a Wednesday would work better for me (since Tiarna is already organised these days), and I'm kinda thinking the sooner the better (the longer it gets left, the more likely I'm gonna be uncomfortable for the 2+ hr train ride and any walking around Syd). Plus, I don't think the school holidays start till basically October (and sorry, I won't be making two trips in that time, I have a house to organise). That's not to say you guys can't have a meet then, just don't count on me being there. Anyway, I was hoping to sort out when I'd be coming down tomorrow, so either tomorrow or Thurs I'll get back to you all (well, all those that could give one) and if you can meet for lunch great, if not... you can all come and see me in hospital or something ;) Glenn hasn't commented on the names yet, but I've pretty much picked my preferences. As if the skirts weren't bad enough in TOS... I'm with Julian (Mr P - not Bashir! ;) on this, of all the relationships we have seen on Trek, there should have been more homosexual ones on the law of averages (or the envisioned averages for their time). Guess the timeslot strikes again. Hmm, and is it a good thing that all the examples of characters who liked to play the field that we can think of have all been male? Ok, so there was Luxwanna (hmm, feel I spelt that wrong), but no regular character. At least they weren't made into floozies (Luxwanna bordered on that but I'd say she "was always sincere, just not to one man"). Maybe it'll be Hoshi or T'Pol (or Hoshi -AND- T'Pol!!!). Hmm, but then I sense that would contradict my agreeing with Andrew that it shouldn't be the 'token gay character' or sensationalised. For all the strange mating behaviour (eg Denobulans) and pregnancies (eg Ocampans), you'd think there'd be more variance in sexual preferance than we have been shown. TVAB and SLG I'm even less likely >to listen to (I could count on my fingers how many times I've >listened to each of those, I reckon!). Well SLG goes from the sublime to the rediculous - '97B&C - as I've mentioned was fucking awesome the first time I listened to it... it's novelty has rubbed off now, and there is nothing special about it. TOO over-produced. "I'm Not in Love" - OMG a piece of trash... a real WTF moment on the record. I happened to hear the original the other day - and It's a really nice song... I think Tori took a song that she would probably perform quite like how the original sounds and tried to get too 'coverish' and stripped away too much. (I hope I'm talking about the right song... the one where's Tori just singing with silly guitar noises. TVAB - I love to pieces (and yes it could end satisfacorily at Spring Haze as I've mentioned before. As a whole I love it better than Choirgirl which is has three REALLY FUCKING ANNOYING tracks. TVAB is a little over done here and there - but if it is - like Datura - it's because the track warrants it. (Hmmm what ever happened to "Warrant" :)) Something like Josephine is utterly beautiful with just T&P (Tori and Piano) there is (I originally though drums) no need for the rediculous superflous guitar work on Josephine. I think TVAB has some of the best tracks that are fantastic live - i.e. Tori and Piano not Tori and Band. Bliss, Juarez, Josephine, (Lust is WAY better live), Spring Haze etc. I totally recommend downloading the Musique Plus performance of Tori's... It's great... I have all the tracks mp3 (I just want the interview bits in the middle on) >Even though I've not listened >to anything off Scarlet more than a few times (except ASF, which I >got very into for a few days there), I'm theoretically interested in >it, at least, because it sounds that bit more acoustic. He made very 'titillating' outfits - but exposed no 'nudy' bits! :) A lot of the women probably wore less clothing than your average bay-watch babe... but they got away with it (i.e. the show did) cause it was revealing flesh - but not the traditional 'naughty bits'. Sorry for the confusion, but I meant that, as an album, I think LE is *over* produced, or at very least not produced in a way that maximizes the potential of the songs. I think that the songs themselves are quite raw songs (unlike the songs from, say, Pink or choirgirl, which are complex by design), and they need to 'feel' raw ... a song like PT seems, I dunno, kind of 'dumbed down' on the studio disc. Live (in all its incarnations) it is one of the most powerful, moving, disturbing songs I've ever heard (the "wash me clean Daddy, wash him out of me" bit especially). Crucify too is a wonderful song that seems a bit flat on the studio disc. But maybe that's not an overproduction problem -- the single remix is better and is more 'produced'. But, come to mention it, I often feel that Tori is 'holding back' on her studio performances. I notice this particulatly with Cruel, Juarez, Riot Poof and now Pancake. The former three are wild, brilliant, passionate songs live (and I imagine the latter will be too) -- some of my favourites -- but the studio versions feel like ... something safe for the picture frame (they'r not bad songs at all, but I feel they could be so much *more*). I've wished more than once that Tori would just record studio songs as if she were playing them live ... Ack. I'm not doing a very good job of explaining this.
