They might have been picking the other guy on the basis of reverse discrimination, if he was in his 40s or later. And if that's the case--Bevan you're a lovely guy, but the "older man" probably needed the job more than you. Hmmm. Yeh i think we're talking about the same poster. She is playing and she has a greeney sort of hazze behind her. She looks very down to earth and just into herself. I love it. Hi Rachael! Spiritualised were very special. A lot more full on than on cd, kinda mogwai-ish which is beautiful in terms of waves of distortion and blissful trancey fender guitar like vibes. Great lights too, all about escape, I dug it a lot. Hi Daniel! Sleater-Kinney all the way my friend. I'll get onto that cd-r soon ok. I'll give you all the sleater kinney you can handle... cheers, will _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Aug 2002 10:45:33 +1000 (EST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Julian=20P?= Subject: [oztori] OT: Ticketek question Okay, I'm hoping someone here can answer my question. I'm basically just trying to find out how Ticketek allocates its tickets. I've heard some horror stories from the US about how crap tickets go on sale first (so that the diehard fans snatch them up), and then the good tickets go on sale later so that the vendor can still announce that there are good seats available in the few days leading up to the event. Is that how it works here, or do people who get in first get their run of the house, so to speak? (Or do they release good AND bad seats in batches??) In the past, I've either bought General Admission tickets (so it wasn't really an issue) or bought Allocated Seating tickets a sufficient time after the tickets went on sale, that I just assumed that people sitting in front of me got in before me. Any insights would be appreciated much! :-) Jules - --------------------------------- Yahoo! Are you asking specifically about Ticketek, or ticket places in Australia generally? I can't offer any advice on Ticketek, but I know when you buy tickets to the theatre their computers are loaded up with a program that allocates the best seats automatically to the first people who call. The second row from the front is considered best, then the row right at the front, then the third row, and then it works back from there. If you have a specific request, it can be over-ridden (ie, you might prefer a seat in the middle of the next row back rather than stuck out on the edges of the row they offer you), but basically the system is set up to make sure that those who book first get the best seats. Don't know if that helps you any... Doing it the way you mentioned sounds a bit sneaky and unprofessional, and pretty unlikely (I hope!); I can't imagine they'd get away with it for long. Someone's gotta work those phone lines/booths, after all, and if they're doing shit like that, someone's going to spill the beans. ~Becc :) - -- www.crappism.org ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Aug 2002 02:39:04 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Daniel?= Subject: Re: [oztori] OT: Ticketek question When we got tickets for Dido, Kate & Elissa were in the queue, I think they were second in line when Ticketek opened. We, naturally, wanted floor tickets (at the Enmore in Sydney). We got in the LOUNGE section. Which is upstairs. And the BACK ROW of the lounge section. SOMETHING at Ticketek was f*cked up - because people buying tickets AFTER us got floor - Kate & Elissa ASKED for floor tickets, the show didn't sell out in 5 minutes. So I dunno what happened there, but the system is definitely fallible. *sigh* xo Dan ===== And I'm so sad like a good book I can't put this Day Back a sorta fairytale with you Everything you'll ever need on one web page from News and Sport to Email and Music Charts http://uk.my.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Aug 2002 13:44:57 +1000 From: "riot poofter" Subject: Re: [oztori] OT: Ticketek question ok, well my daddy (real father, not older sex "daddy" hehehe) owns a tiketek outlet (and no i *can't* get tickets for anyone else!! :P) so i know a little bit about this... the tickets are different depending on whether the show is going to sell out or not... if they are for kylie, madonna etc they will be sent to stores on the mornoing and they sell them as they come... meaning that if you get in first you get better tickets..... (i am not quite sure if tickets print first and then get sold or if they get printed as each person asks for tickets)... basically, you can get seats that are just as good at a small suburban store as in the city... but i think there are limits on how many form certain rows can be sold at one store... the big way in which later purchasers get better tickets is by waiting for 2nd 3rd etc shows to go on sale b/c the tickets don't get sold for those til the previous ones are pretty much sold out... if you got worse tickets for the smae show than someone behind you, then something did really go wrong... the rort i have heard of is that ticketek in anberra apoparently opens at 8am and thus you can ring (or go) there for tix for sydney shows and beat the rush... not sure if this is still the go anyway, i will ask daddy and try and clarify the way this works for sure xx Roozi (who always gets good tix to everything :P - unless its ^%&%ing ticketmaster) _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Aug 2002 14:40:34 +1000 (EST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Julian=20P?= Subject: [oztori] Re: OT: Ticketek question Dan: That's horrible! Although it sounds more like a major system fuck-up than an actual policy of withholding good seats as a marketing ploy. Still, you'd think they'd have been more apologetic/accomodating. Hmn. Becc: My question wasn't meant to be specifically targeted at Ticketek, but I asked about them since they seem to have the monopoly on the majority of 'big' events. The way you described is how I always assumed that the system worked. But the withholding -- while I agree it is sneaky and unprofessional -- seems to be happening a lot in the US (particularly associated with the dreaded 'pre-sale') and I'm just wondering whether it's a nasty infection that has spread here. I really hope not. Really. Hope. Not. Roozi: Please don't be offended, but I read your reply and thought 'wtf?!?'. Then I re-read it and it made perfect sense. (Give me a break, I'm tired and I'm at work on a Sunday.) I always thought that tickets were allocated and printed as they were bought, irrespective of where they were bought. Is this not true? Do outlets get allocated certain batches of tickets? Is it like looking for the Wonka bar with the golden ticket? (PS, I ate so many fucking Wonka bars last year trying to get a golden ticket, and damnit I didn't get one. In Veruca voice: "I want an Oompah Loompah! I want one *now*!!" Of course, after eating so many Wonka bars, I ended up *looking* like an Oompah Loompah, but that's really not such a good consolation prize.) Um, anyhoo, Is there a method of purchase that increases your chances (online/in person/phone)?? Oh, and doesn't your dad own a bookstore? - --- In other news, I thought I was alone on my floor here at work. So I decided I'd put on Pele. LOUD. Halfway through Pro Widow (and I'm kinda grooving along here), I turn around to find my boss' secretary at my door. She'd come in to do some last-minute filing before going on leave. So fucking embarrassing ... :-) Jules - --------------------------------- Yahoo!
