'tis common for smokers to develop this change of voice either at or before they hit Tori's age (ie, when they become very ooooooooold :P). The 'gravelly' quality is caused my irregularity of vocal fold vibration; or thickening of the edge of Tori's vocal folds, caused by such abusive vocal behaviours as she has previously employed in concert (notably the drawn out "gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl" in Precious Things - see RAINN vid). Tori may also be straining her vocal folds more, increasing the tension and subsequently the force at which the folds vibrate. Put simply, I think Tori's voice has deepened as she has 'matured' (euphemism for 'aged'), and she can't hit as high notes as she once could with the same ease. Of course, the fact that she's been smoking crack heavily for the past 15 years of her life does not help matters :P Nathan. _______________________________________________________ Yahoo! 'Cept that NZ prime minister who I would have thought was a man had I not seen her face. 'Interesting' (?) fact - Margaret Thatcher took lessons to lower the pitch of her voice when she was Prime Minister. Although Tori can still 'get it up' (:P) a bit these days.. see 'I blame it on Marcel' (well the lyrics I prefer) chorus of Taxi Ride. BUT... I do find it disappointing that these days Tori doesn't even TRY to hit the higher notes eg. in Icicle where she cops out the "I could have, I should have" bit an octave lower. Ditto 'You can say it one more time' part of Take to the Sky live. Really, the only difference between Tori & Milli Vanilli is that she is yet to win a grammy :P Nathan. _______________________________________________________ Yahoo! Probably not, because Oct 29th is a Choozday, and we get new releases on Mondays 'ere, unlike the US... so 'if all goes well', I imagine it should be Oct. 28th. > Ooh, was entering in the tracks into winamp for TVAB > and accidentally > for Riot Proof, typed in Riot Poof...damn u roozi! Erm, Riot Poof actually IS Riot POOF, not "Proof". *are you dyslexic, Dylz?* Nathan. _______________________________________________________ Yahoo!
