Verdict: Was just saying to Jaz that it's the kind of thing you could safely play in front of your parents & they'd probably think it was nice/hum along. I think it's probably the most 'radio-friendly' thing she's done (like, for adult-contemporary stations). I think she's going to appeal to a whole new demographic of 40-somethings if the album is in a similar style... which is probably not a bad thing given most of us are rapidly approaching that age-bracket ;) And although it may have some 'appeal' to non Tori-ites, thankfully it's not as cheezey as previously failed attempts to do so: ie, 1000 Oceans. Yeah - its safe. It's still definitely Tori, but its safe, which (after the complete flop that was SLG) I think she needs to be right now, especially on the single releases. > And although it may have some 'appeal' to non > Tori-ites, thankfully it's not as cheezey as > previously failed attempts to do so: ie, 1000 > Oceans. That's what I thought too. I thought "yeah, this'll appeal to the same market as 1000 Oceans". Then I remembered that 1000 Oceans was a failure (but I still love it). This will hit the Lilith Fair crowd. Is that an ACOUSTIC guitar I hear? STRUMMING? Wow...I don't think she's done that since UTP. Feel free to prove me wrong though...but...WOW! I'm not going to suddenly jump up and down screaming "OH MY GOD TORI" or anything, but I very much like this song. My faith is on firmer ground...will wait for the album before giving final judgement on whether I'm still a fan or not :) So far, I'm thinking yes. Hurrah! xo Dan PS - Geocities has download limits. Anywhere but Australia. Nadyne already answered this to a degree, so I just want to add, Tori's mentioned Andrew Jackson before in Home on the Range. (I agreed with everything else you said in that post too Nadyne) >Although apparently there is/was some rumour going >around that Tori would have ANOTHER album out around >February (what, is she trying to be Prince?) - in >which case, maybe *this* has the supposed >been-held-onto-for-3-years songs. But then, "they" If that's what they do, I think it's stupid. You'd think that they'd release those first, but then Tori tends to let her songs dictate their release, so I guess it's up to the songs when they want to reveal themselves. There is always b-sides, or they could be played live. But I'd suggest like The Fair Motor Maids, we won't hear nor see anything of a majority of these. >also rumoured that the follow up to SLG would be out >last December, and that never eventuateed. Well, if that was through Atlantic it was probably the greatest hits, and well, SLG didn't generate enough hype for the GH to ride on the back of it. I certainly hope they're not trying to time this for the 'year after' Sept 11... And one final thought... I assume that the source of this recording is a CD-R like Neil has... in which case it may very well be a tad different when it's released. I like it. It's nice. Whether or not it has the potential to make a successful single or not depends on a number of factors one which includes the way it is promoted in a big way, the other would be how people are feeling come its release..as well as a few other factors. I see this song being huge if it was to say be added onto the soundtrack of some crappy sappy lovey big blockbuster flick..but doubt this would happen. That would so sell the song. My favourite part of the song is the 'he could taste heaven perfectly' bit. That bit sounds excellent. I think the worst part of the song is its title. It just sounds silly, IMHO. And the 'silver lining' bit kinda makes me cringe a little. I like it though and it's managed to add some change to what I've been listening to lately...which has been on repeat for a number of days...like at one stage I had one song on repeat constantly for 48 hours straight and just wouldn't turn it off....i am obsessive ;) about weird songs...anyone who hears it thinks I'm crazy for liking it... I used to work with an American psychologist (god bless she was actually pretty cool) who would do this on her reports, and it used to give me a headache trying to work out what date she really meant. Tori's on a new label now though, so it could be different (hopefully better.. although this wouldn't be a hard job given Atlantic's record with anything post-Spark). Will they release a single at ALL is the q'n? In the US, many songs don't get a single release these days. Although, I nearly always got the imports over the Aus-pressed ones, due to the fact I don't like the crappy cardboard wallet sleeves most of Tori's Australian-pressed CD singles have come in. And if the single is released, will it come in a 2-part release.... and will there be new b-sides? (one can only hope). Surely they won't be releasing live b-sides from now on of Atlantic material.. so that only leaves room for new *studio* b-sides! Yay. I don't think "A Sorta Fairtytale" is the kinda song that lends itself to dance 'remixes'. Although, if Jackie's Strength can... I guess anything is 'fair game'. I'm trying to think of other artists signed to epic, but the only one i can come up with are the Indigo Girls. I know they DID release singles (I have one...for Power of Two...or is it Touch Me Fall? I so can't remember) but then indigo girls were never really in a radio-play market. For some reason, tracks off Shaming Of The Sun did get remixed so a bunch of 12" are floating around. Can anyone else think of any other artists signed to epic? The indigo girls latest release came in a limited edition version, as have all the past IG albums...so fingers crossed that epic pick up on the anally retentiveness of tori fans and do that too. If they're worried about the lack of selling-ness of singles, they should just do a limited edition thing, then if it sells hurrah and if it doesn't, well there won't necessarily be a million flying around out there. Like the Winter EP. Well Michael Jackson was on Epic.. hehehee. And witness the recent troubles he's had with them. Nathan. _______________________________________________________ Sign up for SBC Yahoo! Mariah was on Epic or something I think too.. Or something that was through Sony as well. And J-Lo is too. Hey maybe Tori had this "stealing Sony" plan made up back in '92.. and used J-Lo as the scapegoat for setting Mariah on a psychological melt-down - ie, Mariah's "J-Lo is out to get me" claims - it was really Tori that has been out to get her all these years ;) (uh, I think I wrote about this a few months back, so 'apologies' if I'm repeating myself). Is Betty Louise a pseudonym for Tori here? But the bigger question remains: who is Humpty Dumpty? Nathan.
