Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 May 2002 04:14:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Nathan R Subject: [oztori] Tori Amos relaunches career in pair of gold hotpants Jas asked for this... so blame her :P TORI AMOS, American singer-songwriter-pianist has shocked fans and critics alike by boldly relaunching her ailing career by appearing in her new video, "Swirling Around", wearing little else other than a pair of 6-sizes-too-small 'hotpants'. The 38 year old chanteuse has come under fire from critics, for copying the trend set by Kylie Minogue in her video from 2 years ago, "Spinning Around". Amos is quick to defend herself from such claims, stating, "in my b-side from 8 years ago, 'Home on the Range', I sang "America, oh who discovered your ass".. well.. I've just discovered *my* ass baby. And if you don't like it, you can kiss my hotpants". Amos has also come under fire for naming her new album "Impossible Pianist"; a name which onlookers suggest is a touch too close to that of Minogue's 1997 long-player, 'Impossible Princess'. Ironically, however, Amos does not even play a single note of piano on this new album - an unexpected turn, since she has previously been known for her prodigious piano skills. "I looked at the piano," froths Amos, "and she just winked at me and said, 'I am so *bored* with you'. So I got somebody else [Minogue's former 80's producers, Stock, Aitken & Waterman; and early 90's poptress Cathy Dennis, producer of Minogue's 'Can't Get You Out of My Head'] to make the music this time." The opening single from the Stock/Aitken/Waterman-produced album Impossible Pianist, "Swirling Around", was also not written by Amos, but instead by Paula Abdul, Cathy Dennis, and Posh Spice Victoria Beckham. "I left it in somebody else's hands for once," beams Amos, pouting in blood-red lippie and raising her left, finely-plucked eyebrow. "After my last album flopped and I got dropped from my record label [Atlantic], I realised that I needed to completely change direction so that I can keep making money, er I mean music. Pop is what I do best." Amos continues hesitantly, "Well, er yeah money too. I mean I'm a mom now.. so I need some cash to look after Tash. Hahahah.. Hey did you hear that guys? That rhymed! Quick somebody write it down and give it to Paula, Cathy, and Vicky.. They might want to use it when writing my next single." "Oh.. and I also need the ca$h to keep up my, uh... habit." Amos had previously been known as one of the most original and inventive female singer-songwriters in music, and had self-penned every song on her first 5 albums. The last album, 'Strange Little Girls', however was a covers record.. perhaps alluding to Tori's lack of desire to create her own records anymore. 'What do you say to critics who call you a 'sell-out' trying to make a quick buck out of Minogue's sassy image?', we asked Amos: "They can kiss my hotpants!" Amos was set to commence a shopping-centre mimed tour in support of her new album Impossible Pianist; however its release has been delayed at the last minute, following the death of famous pianist, Elton John, from a severe nose-bleed. The album is now set to be re-titled simply as "Tori Amos", and will instead be released in 6 months' time. The first single only debuted at #122 on the UK charts.. but Amos is quick to point out that this is likely due to the death of Sir Elton the week before. - ------------------------------------------------------- Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 May 2002 21:34:59 +1000 From: "nina riddel" Subject: Re: [oztori] Rating Venus Juarez - love it Spring Haze - love it Glory of the 80s - love it Datura - like it BIG gap...
