This is called the contractual obligation album. The release of a best-of completes Tori's contract with them. >When do you think they will release it? Before or after the new album >through epic? They'll definitely be -close- together, so Atlantic can ride the coattails of any buzz associated with the new album. Whether it'll be before or after, though, I'm not sure. They have to time it pretty well. If they do it too much before the album release, they won't get enough of the buzz to generate sales. If they wait too long, unless Tori releases a lot of singles and gets a lot of airplay, they'll miss their chance. My guess for a track listing would be whatever singles they can fit onto one CD. You're right about the PW remix, they'll do that as a nod to the European market. If they were to do a bee-side (which seems unlikely), I'd guess that they'd do either Sugar or Honey, but I'd aim for Sugar. Sugar seems likely because there's a live version on TVaB, so they can point to the studio version on it as selling point. /nm ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 19:06:44 -0700 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: [oztori] Best of..... Atlantic just pressed enough 'Winter' singles in their single US print run to limit the number each individual in China could own to three. /nm ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 14:02:47 +1000 From: "riot poofter" Subject: Re: [oztori] Best of..... >maybe >smells like teen spirit (assuming courtney will let >them). i reckon this is the only non-single to be likley to appear, since the "buzz" surrounding it was bigger than for almost any of tori's actual singles. the rest will be singles and they might do a separate version for europe/rest of world to american version, which would have "prof widow (its got to be big)" as "bonus" track... then again, it probably had enough club success in the US to be included regardless. i reckon the tracks will be heavily slanted to little earthquakes, justa s the recent tracy chapman collection has quite a few tracks of her debut. i'd be surprised to see any of the 5 singles from earthquakes excluded... they might also not include anything off SLG in the hope of re-promoting it along side the best of and the enw tori album... just my thoughts... maybe a double album of hits and rarities even?? The longer answer is that Atlantic isn't going to do anything more than they have to do for this album. They're going to ride the coattails of any buzz generated by the Epic album as much as possible. They're definitely not going to release a double album -- double albums rarely sell very well. They're not going to put any effort into compiling rarities. They're not going to release a 'limited edition' 2-CD set. They're going to release an album, they're going to do a minimal amount of publicity for it, and it's probably going to contain nothing more interesting than one bee-side that 'most everyone has anyway. (The suggestion of SLTS is a great one, and probably beats out my 'Sugar' suggestion.) There's also contractual reasons. Tori's contract is such that a single CD best-of compilation completes her contract with Atlantic. A double CD album counts as two albums. (So, TVaB counted twice towards her contract.) They would actually have to -extend- her contract to do a double CD. The chances of Atlantic offering that are pretty much nil, and the chances of Tori accepting if they were to offer it are probably even lower. If Atlantic did exactly fuckall to promote her last two albums, not to mention how shitty the promotion was for FtCH, why would they do anything interesting with an album when she's no longer with them? /nm ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 14:12:46 +1000 From: "riot poofter" Subject: Re: [oztori] Best of..... >I reckon something like >crucify >winter >silent all these years me and a gun: it has too much of an attention factor to be left off china: its a bit more adult contemporary than most tori stuff and they will be aiming to sell lots of copies of the best of to people who liked her more commercial stuff >caught a light sneeze >talula the remix i'd say >professional widow (armand van dudes mix, unfortunately) possibly "voodoo" on the us release... i imagine they will put out a pretty lengthy album >hey jupiter (dakota version) >past the mission this might well get left off pretty good year: one of her biggets singles in the uk i thought? >god >cornflake girl >spark >ras (P) berry swirl >jackie's strength yeah, cruel will probably get the arse in favour of jackie's strength >concertina i don't reckon so... 1000 oceans is *much* more likely, esp. given adult contemporary factor, concertina diappeared withouta trace i thought... and more so than oceans! bliss will be on us version at least i'd say, maybe in place of "glory" >glory of the 80's maybe on "rest of world" edition, but not US version >strange little girl might well be left off (see other email) >Atlantic would be wise to release a best of in August IMO. Oooh, thanks Andy :) On the river... ahhh... sounds like UWA (I'm currently about 500m from the Swan river foreshore.) I'm only really concerned with the Arts building/s... & the size/comfort of the library where the history books are. Wherever I am, I intend to stay WELL AWAY from any Engineers. ;) E. too much of a diary: http://www.livejournal.com/~2much "You must be true to yourself.
