It's like Tori was a new artist when TVAB was recorded that the record co took a 'risk' with - and they *forced* her to record 1000 Oceans and tag it on the album as a 'back up' in case the rest of the album failed - so they would have one commercially viable song from it (even though it wasn't.. LOL). I almost can't believe she allowed its release/even wrote the damn thing. Well not necessarily. Almost anything can have a seemingly 'impressive' debut these days - it all depends what other competition is around when you release (ie, mid-late January when BFP came out = usually not much competition), how much hype there is, and what record lable you're on and how much they 'rig' the charts - ie, record co. people actually go out and snap up stuff from the shelves to help their albums/singles get better chart placings - ie, the 'final 7' popstars "Superstition" single - only debuted at #32, but then amazingly popped up to #7 the following week - in order to raise its profile.. then had a huge drop again. It also went gold (but this is based on trade sales = the no. of copies STORES buy in) in its first week - even though it only made #32. Suspicious? Well SLG debuted at #4 in the US but then bombed to #27 the next week - hardly a 'bonafide' top 5 album really. Similary BFP went: 2-6-28-36 and then out of the top 50 for good in the UK. Hardly a 'huge selling #2' album. Better still, SLG dropped from #16 to #57 in its second week in the UK albums chart. But this pattern is typical of Tori's stuff - high debut and then plummets, as all the 'fans' snap it up in the first week or so and then it dies. > Confession - I've only watched that 'Videos Video' > once. It went onto my > shelf... Same with RAINN... You no likey? Although not wishing to see multiple viewings of the RAINN vid is understandable.. lol that audience + Maynard's appearance + Tori's overdone "oh I'm in sooooooo much agony" & weird facial experessions/cross-eyed thing is enough to make you want to burn everything you own by her :) > I haven't got the LE > vid... Asutarlian!! Woo- good 'alien-race' name there Rooze :o) Weren't you going to look at that Discography of Rock/Music book where it had that VERY wierd Tori Entry about that 'song' leaving the UK charts at #49 after so many weeks etc. Around 1996... (okay there were promos, but they don't >count...there's ALWAYS a promo...) actually i posted a link proving that it *was* released in australia, but i think it never showed up. will have to find it and re-post it. i am now 100% confident that there was a "numb" single in australia, although it may have been video only in the states (it not being a singles market etc) cornflake girl i am willing to concede on, must have been a dodgy video-hits chart or something that is aw it on... don't have enough time to find the link now but will do it again soon. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ------------------------------ End of oztori-digest V2 #130 ****************************
