I think Tori's album was second and the most Unnecessary Album was from Enya." As much as I love Tori and she'll probably always be my #1 (well, top 3 at least) favourite artist and will always look forward to new stuff...I have to agree. While a commendable idea with a few knockout tracks...in my mind it largely did nothing to forward musical expression or her career or the public's perception of what music is capable of. While there were a few exceptions - to my mind, 97 Bonnie and Clyde (a reviewers' favourite), Rattlesnakes, Time and Real Men are part of the "Tori Canon" - it is just one of those 'churned out' albums that serves no real purpose, except maybe the personal indulgence of the artist or (to my mind the most probably answer) to fulfil a contract. I'm not dissing Tori or intentionally stirring up a fight, I was just wondering what other people thought about this. I think an EP with 5 or 6 of the better tracks off the album would have been a better idea. As it is, "Strange Little Girls" is the one Tori album that has been relegated to my wardrobe - accessible should I feel the need to listen to it but otherwise its just there because I'm a fan. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Apr 2002 22:33:51 +1000 From: "Pamela Collom" Subject: Re: [oztori] The Game's Afoot! If (as 99% of us suspect) SLuG was just a quick n' eazy way for Tori to get out of her contract with Atlantic.... WHY could she not have instead agreed to: 1) allow them to release a 'greatest hits' in its place 2) allowed them to re-release YKTR (it's not that bad Tori!) or 3) either released a b-side collection instead or another live CD.... or even a disc of studio out-takes (Zero Point, To the Fair Motormaids of Japan, Learn To Fly, It Might Hurt A Bit, etc). Would have been so *easy*, and she wouldn't have had to inflict SLuG on the world, tarnishing her record in the process. > And while I say its not intentionally stirring up a > fight...I'm hoping that > there is *grin* Quit tryin' to be me ;) (jus' kiddin') As for your SLuG being relegated to the 'honorary' position of your closet... Dear smeg I know what you're talking about. It was interesting to a point, but now I don't mind missing the Sat night ep to get ST original. But then I hope I don't see the 'panto' ep for at least another year, though it is always funny to see Rob in drag. And I never remember Tom Proctor (what a twonk!) being in it that early... just goes to show what an impression he made. But, for once I thought I'd take a deep breath and count to 10. (loses control) NOT HAPPY DAN!!! I love how those airheads say LE was "the" album to have in '91... which might hold true if you were a lucky music journo who got an advance promo copy in maybe December. Typical bunch of airheads who know nothing about music (& release dates, might I add ;) File under K for Kingsmill. Nathan. . Yahoo! How can they be the artist's 'greatest hits' if they are still recording tunes...it is just STUPID!!! (okay, that just pisses me off how they do that....) NR> 2) allowed them to re-release YKTR (it's not that bad NR> Tori!) *cough* the fact that it isn't THAT bad in comparison to the crap that was out then does not mean it is not shite (okay, we all know that the majority of y'all have some shocking taste in 80's crap *ducks for cover*). It was a ridiculous attempt. If she were proud of that album then we would know there was something SERIOUSLY wrong with the lady. I can't believe she stooped sop low with it, neither cans he apparently which is why she doesn't want to go back to it ;) NR> 3) either released a b-side collection instead or NR> another live CD.... or even a disc of studio out-takes NR> (Zero Point, To the Fair Motormaids of Japan, Learn To NR> Fly, It Might Hurt A Bit, etc). but releasing something decent would have been a good thing for Atlantic...and why do that if you are leaving?
