I listened to the album yesterday and I've been thinking this about it for a while (i don't know if I ever wrote it on this list) and I think the thing that sucks most about it (apart from the crap vocals) is that Caton is missing. The guitarists who worked on SLG are nothing compared to him. Caton and Tori work so well together. Caton's guitar on some of the songs are just brilliant (too many to list). I really liked what he had done with Tori, so that is what sucks about SLG. NR> "Only Women Bleed" is vocally the worst song she has NR> committed to record (well CD) IMNSHO. Sounds like NR> she's singing under anaestheic. No, totally disagree. Only Women Bleed (well not soo much that one) and After All are two of the best tracks from that album..err(they aren't on the album)...era. vocals aren't so bad on either of them. I personally couldn't give 2 hoots about 'Caton' to be 'honest'. He was over-rated. > The guitarists who worked on SLG > are nothing compared > to him. There are guitars on SLG? lol.. shows you how much I've listened to it. Oh yeah there is on New Age, Strange Little Girls, and a few others now I think of it. But worse still.. Tori's piano (well, keyboard for most of the songs) playing is nowhere near as dynamic as she is capable of on it. > No, totally disagree. Only Women Bleed (well not soo > much that one) and > After All are two of the best tracks from that > album.. After All is the best thing from that 'era' IMO. It's topz! But 'Only Women Bleed' accomplishes the amazing feat of out-boring and out-tiring-vocally the oh-so-bland "Enjoy the Silence" cover. > You know > what does annoy me on the SLG album though, Real > Men, it is probably > the best song on it and that little silence before > the song starts..god > that shits me...the anticipation till the song > actually starts... I like that bit actually. It's her piano pedal being slammed down before she starts. Does the same before 'A Case of You' too (well the version on the Cornflake Girl Ltd Edn. single.. 'twas snipped off for the one on More Pink). Nathan. . Try FREE Yahoo! Not only have I not bought the album, I didn't even bother downloading half the songs from it. No I meant that 'After All' is tops-with-an-s (just added the 'z' for 'amuzement purposez'). It's a David Bowie cover.. but it's NOT on the album. 'Twas instead on the aborted 'Strange Little Girl' CD single. (although admittedly I could probably only figure out about 15% of what the lyrics were if it didn't come with a lyric sheet... she mumbles so much on the damn thing). Although I've listened to the live disc a grand total of probably less than 5 times. I'm sorry, but I don't think it's her best. I say she *needs* to do something spectacular with this next album to *earn* our continued admiration in spite of not-quite-up-to-scratch-really recent releases of hers. Must be all these fertile oztori posts ;o) I can tell you also stear clear from 'Trek' names - unless it's your thing - - I think it could be kinda cute - but I'm sure kids in the playground can be nasty - yes this is leading somewhere... I went to a Star Trek convention back in 1995, and met Majel-Barret Roddenberry. For those in the 'know' she did the computer voice on every Trek series, she was MARRIED to the creator of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry. She played 'no. 1' in the first ever Star Trek pilot made in 1964 (Jeffery Hunter starred as Captain Christopher Pike), she went on to be Nurse Christine Chapel (Dr. McCoy's nurse) in the Star Trek series. She then was Deanna Troi's mother "Lwaxana Troi" in The Next Generation, and Deep Space Nine. (Rumour is she maybe making a cameo in the next ST:TNG film, "Nemesis" - and no Lwaxana is NOT Picard's Nemesis - not in the movie anyway ;o) ANYYYYYWAYYYYYYY, I was inline to meet her/get her autograph/have picture taken, and the people in front of me were getting a pic signed, and she (Majel) asked who she should make it out to, and they said to their son "Sarek". Well, Majel said "pardon" and they said "Sarek". She sorta did a double take. She happily signed it of course, but I'm sure she might have been thinking... that has taken it a little far. "Sarek" for those who don't know is Spock's father. Oh Well, who knows we could have a little Jean-Luc running around oztori!?! I hope I AM on track there, Lavs! :o) Congrats again. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! :) I'm gonna say it again, but Tori is a shape shifter, nearly every photo of her she looks... different. Same with Cate Blanchette, and now I'm adding my first 'male' to that category and that would be Viggo Mortensen. He is the Actor who played Aragorn/Strider in "The Lord of the Rings". I went hunting about for some info on this fine actor, and I've seen a few photos, and he too is some sort of SHAPE SHIFTER! A chameleon if you will. It's fascinating - infact one of the web-sites is called "The Many Faces of Viggo Mortensen". They dub him a sort of 'Renaissance Man'... He not only acts, he is an accomplished artist (photography and paint), and poet. My most treasured mp3's are from the "Musique Plus" performance that Tori did, With these songs plus others just Tori and Piano, and it's VERY good. The sucky thing is I don't have the mp3 of the 'interview/speaking'?? bits between a few of the songs... I really urge everyone to download these... Maybe I'll put one up on the net for a week?
