Scan in at double the dpi you normally would scan it in at - this is because you will be resampling back to the normal size to get a crisper picture after the blur. If you are just scanning it in for the web, don't bother scanning any higher then around 150-160dpi. 2. Convert to Lab colour (in photoshop, Image -> Mode -> Lab colour) 3. Bring up the Channels window. 4. Select the Lightness channel. 5. Use a Gaussian Blur until the halftone pattern can no longer be seen. (Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur). do NOT over blur... - you want the point just beyond being able to see the halftone pattern) 6. Repeat step 5 for the a and b channels. 7. Resample back down to dpi you want it in (72dpi for PC web, 96dpi for Mac web) 8. Convert your colour mode back to whatever you want it in. 9. Finally, apply an Unsharp Mask filter to make it a little crisper. There is one better way to do it then this, but that requires far to much time, and this will result in a scan of good enough quality to be going to a 133dpi screen, which is well and truly more quality then any of you guys will need :) dan. dan@danhirning.com www.danhirning.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Feb 2002 22:46:29 -0800 (PST) From: Nathan R Subject: [oztori] Scamming help AndrewR wrote: > OK, I thought I'd ask here, cause there are some > know-it-alls... ahem > knowledgable people here... ;o) I haven't scanned > much before, and we'll I > wanted to scan in a newspaper article/picture and it > comes out sort of > mottled/checquered in the picture part - like it's > picking up on the how > dots make up a picture and magnifying them... is > there a good technique in > scanning - that eliminates this?
