And why? In'tristing. I'd pick: 1) "I Should Be So Lucky" - Kylie Minogue (it WAS written by MEN - Stock/Aitken/Waterman ;) [okay I'm not being 'serious' here.. lemme start again] Firstly, I think a coupla the songz she did for SLG fit well into the 'concept' of it - namely Real Men and '97 Bonnie & Clyde. But if we forget about the 'concept' of it, I'd pick: 1) Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order Dunno.. Tori could do a nice piano ballad of this me-thinks.. as long as she didn't butcher it in a bad way like she did with Enjoy the Silence (although this has 'grown' on me a bit). And maybe it could even have parallels to a 'love' triangle between her, Trent, and Courtney love as Denters do so like to hypothesise about. 2) Intruder - Peter Gabriel This is a spooky song that Tori could do a cool version of ala '97 B&C. 3) With Or Without You - U2 I dunno - Tori could just do a 'nice' version. 4) Lullabye - The Cure Another song Tori coulda done a cool '97 B&C-esque thang on. 5) Personal Jesus - Depeche Mode She already murdered one song from Depeche Mode.. why not another? ;) This one would be a tad tongue-in-cheek perhaps towards her father. 6) Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye Heheh. Tori could do some sparse 'I'm Not In Love' kinda thang.. and totally ruin the song in the process ;) Tori could uncover the female nympho within the song, if we are sticking with the SLG-characters thing. 7) Poison - Alice Cooper She did the crappy Only Women Bleed cover.. now she can rectify things by covering a cool Alice song. Something rocky along the lines of HOG, perhaps? (though not as crappy). 8) Eleanor Rigby - Beatles I dunno.. I just think this would be a nice song for Tori to do (well certainly better than HIAWG). 9) Killer - Adamski/Seal Would be interesting to hear Tori's take on this. 10) Jocko Homo - Devo I would LOVE to hear Tori sing in a stupid voice, "Are we not men? WE ARE DEVO!" 11) Smack My Bitch Up - Prodigy Now this would have raised a few eyebrows had she covered it for SLG. Fits in with the whole SLG theme. 12) Whap Rap - Wham Hehehe and to finish off the album ala 'Real Men'... wouldn't it be great for Tori to sing a song with the lyrics "I am a man!"? Though hopefully not sung in falsetto like George Michael did. And there ya hav'it. I think my selection is much better than Tori's was, IMNSHO. Nathan. . Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! And why? Apart from Coldplay, Radiohead, NIN and Neil Finn (and a couple of largely inconsequential 'best ofs' i own (eg blur)) I don't really know well enough any male songs. So I'm going to list some songs by WOMEN that I think should be covered by men, and how. BIC RUNGA's "Sway" - - i've always wanted to hear this done by a guy, stylistically like something Coldplay would do. character wise, he would be the guy she's singing about - but with a lilt like he's curious and questioning and a little wary to contrast with the warmth and glow that bic gives the song. TORI AMOS' "Honey" - - angry and fucked up. i've got a whole story that i can't be bothered going in to here, but this guy has serious problems. this woman was like an addiction - couldn't live without her, but he hated her. LISA GERMANO's "A Psychopath" - - covered from the perspective of the 911 operator on the other end of the phone of the sampled phone call. not as desolate and hopeless, but more urgent and panicky. sparse. THROWING MUSES "Vicky's Box" - - not necessarily from the perspective of the gay guy - just someone who has become something he doesn't really want to be/enjoy/is comfortable with. not as musically raw as the original version, the introduction section could be 'treated' to become something stereotypically "gay" musically (probably kylie-ish or something) but it slides into a "hey jupiter (dakota)"-esque piece. i'll stop here for the moment because i can't be bothered thinking up any more at the moment. but also because they (to my mind) will form a neat story arc - the guy who is being 'followed' in sway has answered her call and becomes addicted in a bad way (also contrasting with the original 'crush' sentiment in "sway"). but he hates the woman so she gets up and leaves ("honey") which he can't handle and so we lead into "A psychopath". and "vicky's box" is his realisation stage about what has happened and how he has changed. what do y'all think? xoxo dan ;) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My pillow screams too But so does my kitchen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OzTori - http://www.oztori.org For all your Australasian Tori Amos needs. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2002 19:10:12 -0800 (PST) From: Nathan R Subject: Re: [oztori] Oh my god, a Tori thread! OK, taking this idea: 1) You Oughta Know - Alanis Morrissette Covered by N*Synch or some such other sappy boy 'band' (sic). 2) Silent All These Years - Tori Amos Done by Metallica (when they useta 'rock' - erm, not that I ever liked them, but y'know.. when they actually *were* 'metal'). "Boy you best pray that I bleed real soon" would go down especially well, no doubt. 3) I'm Every Woman - Chaka Khan/Shitney Houston Done by Eminem ;) 4) Hit 'Em Up Style - Blu Cantrell Done by Eric Rosse ;) At last, his side of the 'Boys for Pele' story gets told. Perhaps with the verse of Destiny's Child's "Survivor" thrown in where they go "I'm not gonna diss you on the radio, 'cause my mama taught me better than dat!" as a not-so-subtle hint to Tori re: bashing Eric on BFP. 5) Leviticus: Faggot - Me'Shell N'degeO'cello Done by Backstreet Boys ;) Erm.. and that's about all I can think of. > TORI AMOS' "Honey" > - angry and fucked up. i've got a whole story that i > can't be bothered > going in to here, but this guy has serious problems. > this woman was like an > addiction - couldn't live without her, but he hated > her.
