I have to agree here, totally - I think it might have been 97 or 98 or 99 - I was listening to A LOT of JJJ - lots and lots of it... anyway along came the voting list for the Hottest 100 and well I was SO ANNOYED - I sat down with a scrap piece of paper and did a brainstorm on what songs I could remember - that were good and that were played quite frequently... songs I didn't even care much for and I that I even remembered their names to write them down! - I think I came up to about 40 songs that they hadn't listed on their voting page. I e-mailed them several times and left messages on those web-books - but there was NEVER any additions to this list. It seemed a little fishy to me. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2001 19:02:06 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: Re: Re[2]: [oztori] [ozdar] At 14:54 29/12/2001 +1100, Daniel G wrote: >>Watch out! it's BECC the BALROG! ;o) > >Fly you fools! Yes. While it did have its weak moments (Every film does) it was executed perfectly. And I think it succeeded where harry potter didn't - HP had ALL the story in at the expense of the "little things". LOTR cut (quite adequately and judiciously) the bits of the story that weren't necessary and left all the "little things" in which made for MUCH more realistic and entertaining viewing. and it was just the right length. I need to see it again. You obviously don't attend my uni, but no well-orchestrated, "done properly" action ever takes place there. Basically cuz it's a shithole and nobody gives a damn about the place so nobody cares how it's run or who's in the SRC (hence the right-wingers having just got in for another year). I know of one occasion that a student occupation of the Vice Chancellor's office achieved something (that being a temporary queer space that still hasn't been turned into a permanent one - enough to shut people up, in other words, done for entirely the wrong reasons). Obviously I'm not denying that protesting often brings results. It often doesn't, of course, but that wasn't my point either. Hmm, then I don't think you understand my "cynicism" at all. I've explained before on this list that my views are left-leaning but that I dislike the whole left vs. right rift.
