And I was even watching the top 50 on Rage that Saturday morning.. but alas, I didn't hit "record" in time. Damn! I have a vague memory of them wearing candy-striped leggings though in the video. The Reynolds Girls, for those of you unfortunate enough to have missed the phenomena, were a pair of sisters (Linda - aged 18 at the time, and Aisling - aged 16 at the time) who rose to "fame" in 1989 in the UK with their Stock/Aitken/Waterman (Kylie's 80's producers) penned & produced tune, "I'd Rather Jack". Unlike almost all other SAW acts, they were a bit 'outspoken' and got told to leave there because they had become "too big for their boots". They released an independent second single, "Get Real".. but unfortunately it flopped and they faded into obscurity. Rumours abound that one of them (Aisling) died during childbirth a few years back, and the other one (Linda) is now working as a lap-dancer and raising her dead sister's son. The accuracy of these rumours is unknown. > "i'd rather jack than fleetwood mac!" > > Roozi > > nb. "jack" was a name for a particularly popular > form of house music in > 1989. See above about what bracelets do to me. Then note that in addition this is just a boring sterling silver chain thing.) - - writing paper set (Dad's mother gets me this every fucking year, even though I haven't wanted it or used it since I was fifteen, lol) - - very cheap and nasty jar of choc-coated sultanas. Lid cracked and sticky-taped back on, and everything! I hid it in my old bedroom wardrobe at Mum and Dad's place; will deal with it another time. - - bath bomb/shower gel/bath pearl etc in a pack (a "Secret Santa" present, but I know who's responsible, so she'll pay!! >:| ) - - 'Versatile Vegetables' cookbook (my mother gets worried about how poorly I eat) - - Massage Made Easy kit (okay, so this is from work. I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel now!) So, yes, some useful stuff (which pleases me) along with nice selection of crap I neither need nor want, and in fact rather dislike having in my possession because I really feel the pinch of having too much Stuff sitting around weighing me down. I know people just wanted to make a nice gesture and all, but I really wish they hadn't bothered - - it's such a waste of their money. Of course the best Christmas present at all is that Christmas is finally over. Now tomorrow I get to head over to Chermside and push through the throng of sweaty, sales-crazy consumers to pick up my Christmas present to myself: a watch I've had on lay-by for several months now. And see LOTR, if I can get a ticket (tonight the lines were ridiculous). For instance, the hamburger chain has become a symbol for protesters of what is bad about globalisation. Yet, during the S11 protests last year in Melbourne at the World Economic Forum, the McDonald's South Melbourne outlet, just around the corner from Crown Casino, had it biggest week ever as the protesters fuelled up on burgers to keep up the fight against globalisation that was going on down the road. *** lol jas ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Dec 2001 22:27:25 -0800 (PST) From: Nathan R Subject: [oztori] "Girls for Pele", perhaps? Singer/songwriter Tori Amos, renouned for her strong masculinist opinions, has taken a swipe at man-hating lesbians on her latest album, "Girls For Pele". On this daring piece of work, Amos has covered 12 songs written by women, and revealed the male aspect within each. "I listened to these songs by these women, and the male characters hidden within each made themselves obvious to me. They grabbed me by the bust and said, 'Tori, you have to tell our stories!'" The artwork for the album includes Tori being made up as various men to portray each song: the footy jock, the balding strip-club attendee, the 'working 9 to 5' suit-and-tie businessman, the effeminate lisping pansy, a monk, and all 5 members of the Village People on 'Heart of Glass', which, Amos claims, is sung by gay quintuplets. But far from being an exercise in woman-bashing, Amos says she has also, in the process, unveiled a great empathy for her fellow sisters. "I think it's a very hard time to be a heterosexual woman," says Amos. "Men are now changing diapers, cleaning toilets, having babies, experiencing PMS, and spending time in the kitchen. I think women feel their territory is being invaded." "But the solution is," continues Amos, "not by turning around and castrating these men. I think heterosexual women everywhere need to take a good look at themselves and discover who their real enemy is: homosexual women." Amongst the tracks Amos has selected for butchering, er, sorry, I meant *re-interpreting* for Girls For Pele is her own "Twinkle" from 1996's "Boys For Pele". "I was amazed," froths Amos, "that people were dancing to this song - which explicitly details a homosexual woman's slaying of a man, and then hiding out in an abbey.. in Iona.. Totally glamorising the slaying of a man. People were dancing to this and not sparing a single thought for the poor man whose body had been clobbered to death with a giant dildo." "So," continues Amos, "I needed to tell his story. When you murder a man, you don't get to choose which ties of yours his ghost chooses to wear once he's dead." 'Girls For Pele' by Tori Amos was scheduled to be released next Monday, only Atlantic just dropped her. Hehehhe. I'm bored, can't you tell? Nathan. .
