Hey all! I got a few days ago a Tori Amos for fingerpick guitar book (it was on special and, seeing as I cannot play ANYTHING in there, was still a waste of money. probably the only photo ever of tori and a guitar on the cover though) and noticed a few interesting things. I was looking at the publishing dates of the songs. All the Choirgirl songs were published in 1998. Boys for Pele songs (anyone fancy tackling Blood Roses? SHEESH!) were published 1995. UTP in 1993. LE in 1991 - although SATY was published 1990. And these, to my mind, pretty much made sense having had further discussions and stuff on here. The bit that made me go what the was the fact that Winter was published in 1989. Any explanations anyone? Whoever would have thought Tori coulda wrote such a fab tune merely a year after YKTR! > Any explanations anyone? Maybe Winter was originally > going to be on YKTR's > second album, in between "Skirts On Fire" and "The > Underwear Is Black". LOL. Although apparently Winter was written after/about Tori went through a walk through some snowy hills (? ok so maybe I'm making this up?) with her dad, after YKTR had failed.. and Dr Ed said to her something like "when are you going to be good enough for YOU Tori Ellen?" which is what inspired/basically what the song is about. Tori said it was the first time she had really 'connected' with her dad in a long time. In the "All These Years" biography, it says that the 'formative' stage of Little Earthquakes began in '89.. and that Tori submitted the original demo tape to Atlantic in March 1990 (? relying on rusty memory here). China musta also been done in '89 then also.. since it says in the LE piano book that it was the first song completed from the album? (wow - years ahead of the "Celine" sound it has ;) Take to the Sky musta also been done around the same time.. as it was the first LE era song she wrote? Nathan. . Check out Yahoo! Yeah but that's just because the album as a whole was published in 1998. > I noticed that Cooling was (C)1999 in TVAB - despite > being WRITTEN in 1996 > at least and RELEASED in 1998... Erm, Cooling was recorded in the church in Ireland in '95 during the Boys for Pele sessions. Tori said this herself on some online chat that the released version was the same as the one recorded in '95. > In the FTCGH book they're all 1998... Yes, see above. Just as Little Earthquakes CD is 1991 in America, and 1992 in Europe. Although it wasn't *released* until '92 (waves to Lavs). > Also COMPLETED from the album probably means > finished recording or > written and done and filed rather than started > writing because, from rusty > memory, China wasn't on the original demo > tape...someone who can be > bothered looking up their books can confirm this? Yes, but Tori also says in her lil blurb for China in the Little Earthquakes songbook that China was on some old tape that she had lying around and had forgotten about.. Eric found it when they were cleaning out stuff, and said "Listen". "I did" (or something) said Tori. Nathan. . Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! Auctions for all of your unique holiday gifts! I've been away (busy) for a while and have just deleted a whole swag of your (thrilling) e-mails. I've had a couple of neat Tori experiences lately so I'm going to share: 1. Xmas Party Having a Xmas at work on some Paddle Steamer on the Swan River. Fully hosted Kareoke ... and they had Cornflake Girl! So I got up (very pissed by this stage) with a couple of friends and YELLED it out somewhat out of time with the music. Excellent fun! This was followed by the Divynls - I Touch Myself (which has to be one of my favourite songs of all time!) 2. Xmas Party Continued ... Off the boat and to the nearest pub (Windsor). There was a girl and guy singing and playing guitar. Then WHAM BAM WOOP ZIP he started playing CFG .. and she sang it! It was very weird because compared to Tori these two are terrible musicians. I loved it tho (VERY VERY pissed by this stage) and personally congratulated the chick on her taste in between songs. She said Tori is "so gorgeous". Anyway - I am moving house next weekend so I will still be busy - had to say HI! Bevan http://greetings.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Compare her original version of "As Tears Go By" with her 1995(?) one...ignore style and production and the 1995 one is still MUCH better IMHO. And its okay Nayth, your secret is safe with me ;P xoxo Dan ;) ps - no he's not marianne faithfull's voice double or anything like that in case you were wondering ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I Have a fish nailed to a cross on my apartment wall It sings to me with glassy eyes and quotes from Kafka. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OzTori - http://www.oztori.org For all your Australasian Tori Amos needs. ------------------------------ End of oztori-digest V1 #295 ****************************
