My Movie of the Month would be Hedwig and the Angry Inch. It's about an American transexual man perpetually in drag and singing in a grungey/80'spoprock band "the angry inch". It's a musical so you have to follow the words in the songs (i found out in song 3 lol) Speaking of Tori Moments - WOOOAAAAHHH have merry widow version of pro widow on ... she has a very loud voice ;) inspiring ... goosebumps! Back to the Movie: Hedwig sings a fab song called "The Angry Inch" about his "operation" when he was about 18 (an american sugar daddy couldn't marry a boy - - lol). You'll either love it or hate it. I've finally downloaded and listened to some of YKTR. Now I'm ready to comment, track-by-track, in no particular order: The Big Picture Well, well, well. The video was hilarious. Not my fave. It's utter crap really. Fire On The Side Oh, wow! Bonnie Tyler eat your heart out. BABY IT BURNS!! She has *got* to adapt this and do it again. I really got into this song. For all the reasons every year or so I listen to Total Eclipse of the Heart on endless loops. Fayth Smayth. Didn't like it. Understand Nayth now. Etienne Trilogy Pretty cool! The bagpipes though? Yuck, they sound so unprofessionally mixed in! Maybe I'm a witch ... hehehe Cool On Your Island Definately my favourite. Something about it ... probably because I love it the way she is doing it these days. I've been belting it out (and Tori and I sound much better together on YKTR!) Thats it! It was so much fun listening to them all though. She does some things with her voice that she only does on this record! Pity she's all talking about love and boys the whole time. Somebody - thinking it was my Bevan! - said that it's all about boys and love. I actually don't think that's true. There are some other themes here, eg The Big Picture is about 'getting somewhere faster than the rest', all the while standing back to look at the big picture. Floating City is about oppression in the world, if you listen to the words, though it is directed at somebody (every night I wait, take me away to *YOUR* floating city). And I believe The Etienne Trilogy to be about fantasty (maybe I'm a witch...) All the rest are about boys, men, love, but I'd say that at the time YKTR was written, these were very very important commodities for Tori, considering she was in her early 20s. My belief is that YKTR is an extremely significant piece of Tori's work, just as significant as Little Earthquakes, UtP, BFP and every other album. This is really what started her off in the 'big-time'. Just like Baltimore was a very very significant release for her, and for the world! He just seems a very non-understanding person.) > >> I fucking hate my Tori obsession. > > > but you don't really do you? :) > You're right, I don't. My parents do though, which is why I will never EVER tell them how much I have spent on Tori over the years. After all that Pele talk, I have been listening and listening to it over the past few days. Have found a renewed love for Marianne and Talula (the original, virginal version.) I was at the thrust of Tori happenings when Carnival came out, and when I downloaded it, it was still listed as Manha de Carnivale. So ever since then I've just called it that, however, I do know Tori's version's name... Double Serpent also mentioned the value of learning Auslan. Being a "CODA" (child of deaf adults - hahahaha it's so funny how people just create these names to start up a support groups) and knowing how to sign relatively well (*cough* brilliantly) it does come in handy, and especially in a retail environment. When you have an Auslan, or even an old English signing customer come in they are suitably amazed to find that you sign (and undoubtedly they knew my parents who 'who they are' and totally pretended to be my best friend as if I'd known them for years). And plus, it's pretty easy. If you're into eavesdropping, then sign language is the way to go, because you can walk into a room full of deaf people and know what *everyone* is talking about : - ) Does anyone know of any good places to get Tori posters in Melbourne? I know there's that poster shop thing that travels around all the universities and they generally have some good ones..... but anywhere else?? I think it was Andrew who mentioned not having listened to Tori's version of 'Manha De Carnaval' in a long time... and I just wanted to correct him (just cos i can!) The version Tori has done is actually the english version of said song, and is only called 'Carnival', written by Luis Bonfa, Antonio Maria, Hugo Peretti, George Weiss & Luidi Creatore. The original version (no English lyrics) is 'Manha De Carnaval', written by Luiz Bonfa, Francois Llenas, & De Moraes. Completely different :) Yay! I loooooove usurping Nayth's Throne Of Correction. ------------------------------ End of oztori-digest V1 #271 ****************************
