The conservative right section of the public might not like queers if we're angry (oooh, they might not like us... what'll we do?) but the conservative right people probably didn't think much of votes for women and Aboriginals either. Doesn't mean it's not right for them to be angry at their treatment. Sexual stereotyping is going to take place no matter what we do, unless it's convince the law that we deserve equal rights to form nuclear families, and promptly set about doing so. In the meantime, I know it's "nice" to see your queers flapping their arms about queenishly, and bouncing happily around trying to convince themselves by overcompensating that they are indeed Okay, but as cheerful as the image is, if it's not true, fuckit. Give me angry queers any day. As long as it's individual, anything's better than the campy frootloop image all those clones in gay nightclubs carry. ~Becc :) - -- witnessed: www.barbaric-yawp.com/journal ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 18:00:56 -0800 (PST) From: Dan Stapleton Subject: [oztori] On my high horse i hit the Pele... - --- Nathan R wrote: > Er, I wasn't suggesting that, Dan. Hi Adrogenew, Erm actually, Ichi-ban means No 1...dick head in Japanese is Chinchin no atama. Mind you, that's a literal translation from English to Japanese, so it wouldn't make much sense to a Japanese person. Dylan the walking Japanese dictionary of rude Japanese words. Reminds me of a person in grade 8 japanese - when of course everyone learns the rude words... so they had worked out 'dick head' and then along came an exam and one of the questions was the japanese equivalent of head... he realised after the exam he had written "dick"! BUT.. it does get annoying when everyone keeps singing Pele's praises... when.. IMHO, it *does* contain some of Tori's *worst* songs (hello Agent Orange) and also provided us with her worst b-sides ever. Even the TVAB b-sides were better than the Pele ones (because there were none ;) NYAH-NYAH-NY-NYAH-NYAH-NAYTHAN. . Yahoo! But then, I have tried to get non-Tori-initiated people to like Tori with classics such as CALS, CfG, Datura & Hey Jupiter (Dakota) - (though some may argue that these are not indeed classics) - but to no avail. Maybe the time has come to start airing the beautiful, little ones like Marianne and Doughnut Song. Doughnut, incidentally, may just be my most favourite song ever ever written. > BUT.. it > does get annoying when everyone keeps singing Pele's > praises... when.. IMHO, it *does* contain some of > Tori's *worst* songs (hello Agent Orange) and also > provided us with her worst b-sides ever. Even the > TVAB b-sides were better than the Pele ones (because > there were none ;) > Well, my opinion is that Pele had some sweet, cute lil bee-sides (specially Toodles Mr Jim), though musically they aren't exactly of the same calibre as the Boys for Pele LP. I also believe that Pele actually doesn't have ANY bad songs on it - I love every single one, some more than others, but still.... I hate none. Not like Choirgirl, TVAB & SLG - think Jackie's Strength, 1,000 Oceans and fucking RAINING BLOOD - which I can't even LISTEN to the whole way through... It's strange though - the first three albums had no bad songs (I don't think), but the last three have some questionable efforts... I'm not bashing Tori in any sense though!!!! Not like the blatant Tori-Basher Mr Nathan RRRR! Actually, I'm really happy with all this Tori content of late!! Got to luuuurve the Oztori list! Talula is classic... Talula doesn't need to be changed in anyway - it fits Pele perfectly - I couldn't see it existing on any other album or on any other single done by anyone else but Tori. It is fine the way it is. Now to the remix. OK, BT might be a good/clever artist and all that but the BT remix of Talula is just UTTER CRAP. It is a long, drawnout piece of self-indulgent clap-trap. I'm serious - what merit is there in stretching a song out to twelve minutes+ when all you've done is added airy sounds inbetween!?!
