Me, cautiously poking head from behind couch: Absolutly correctamundo. That anyone chooses to begin or continue smoking exhibits a quite serious mental defect upon their behalf. They should be quarentined from society and be allowed to kill themselves in peace. Apply the Pacific Solution to smokers I say. Then Little Johnny would have my vote. I'm kidding. I dont *hate* smokers simply because they are smokers. Indeed, two of my closest friends are smokers. I just don't like the practice of _some_ smokers who choose to litter our beautiful world with cigarette butts that take 3-5 years to decompose simply because they are too lazy to put it in an ashtray. And he gave a naughty chucke... and so did I... till I remembered when I ID'd him at the start of the call... he was FIFTY ONE years old!!!! Ewwww!!! "Thank you BYE". Smokers... or anti smokers, rather... I have been smoking for 7 or 8 years now. So I'm quite the expert on the subject. Why is it that the majority of people concerned and continuously harp about the health dangers of smoking are the NON smokers? You don't see US complaining "help it's ruining my health", we are WELL aware of this. We're the ones living in the body of a smoker, and hence deal with the consequences on a daily basis. It's not like the world's full of people who are oh-so concerned about the wellbeing of other people - I mean, really, if anyone truly cares about the wellbeing and happiness of another individual, then I'm more than happy to send you my postal address for you to send a cheque for $350 to pay off my all my fines (see previous email). Otherwise, shut up, because you really don't care. It's just another excuse to whinge, really. We've got some great anti smoking laws now to prevent passive smoking damage - now leave us alone in our cold and windy corner to suffer a horrible death from any one of the millions of smoking-related-diseases (none of which can be 100% proven) (smoking causes everything apparently - "sorry officer, I know I was speeding, but I was smoking a cigarette, ok?"). I have *plenty* more to say on the matter and am more than happy to argue about it to the death, which going by the stats should be about 20 years younger than the life expectancy of an aussie male since I'm a smoker n all. *PuffPuffPuff* I think I'll light a cigarette to celebrate. ~Andrew~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 22:57:48 +1000 From: Zac Ariel Subject: [oztori] Re: Coca Cola v Coffee Thursday, November 22, 2001, 3:51:06 PM, you wrote: >>schmeh. cola is bad. coffee is good. NR> BUT.. I think Talula is produced a bit badly... as is NR> Little Amsterdam.. Not the Red Baron.. (don't get me NR> wrong - to quote the Pretenders - I do like these NR> songs). Pro Widow isn't NR> produced greatly, but I think it actually adds to the NR> song that it is so raw. again, i think you're confusing bad production with an "artistically" sparse production. agent orange is wonderful. the piano sits just nicely in the background, and her voice has a low pass filter and some eq to give it extra sparkle to make it sound a bit lighter. not the red baron has a similar eq/compression on the vocals, although perhaps there's a boost around 6-7 KHz to accentuate the sibilance - which is definitely intentional. and yes, pro widow (at least the original version) was produced that raw. NR> Tori probably intended it to be that way... Although yup. NR> then again it was her first self-produced record, and NR> maybe she also really 'didn't know what she was NR> doing'. i disagree completely. the production on choirgirl and venus is different (not to be confused with better) - the sort of production techniques used on those two albums wouldn't have worked on pele. NR> There isn't a whole lot of variation in sound over the NR> course of Pele either. NR> Plus it's a bloody LONG album to sit through in one NR> go. yes, and? i actually did a critique on this album for a production class, so i know this album backwards regards some of the techniques used. another thing you've got to remember is that tori's (usual) style of production is to describe a sound that she's after, and it's up to the recording engineer and the mixing engineer to 'make the magic'. and imho, they've done a brilliant job. zac ================================================== zac ariel - web junkie m: 0414 229 299 e: zac@comcen.com.au p/w: zac.home.dhs.org b/w: www.level21.net ================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 23:32:10 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: Re: [oztori] okayyyy..... I know it sounds all momentous and whatnot, but it's just impractical. I am, nonetheless, still toying with the idea of going. It probably won't happen, but I'm enjoying the idea of skipping out on my relatives' Christmas do, if nothing else. Why is it that the majority of >people concerned and continuously harp about the health dangers of smoking >are the NON smokers? You don't see US complaining "help it's ruining my >health", we are WELL aware of this. I don't care if you smoke - what *I* don't like are having people smoke right where I am eating - i.e. at a cafe or a restraunt - WHEN I'm EATING - go outside! sheesh! (thankfully there are less and less smoking restraunts/cafes around. I mean a designated section OUTSIDE is fine - but not inside where the next table is in the 'smoking area' but is only 50 cm away from you! Also I don't like breathing in people's smoke. Fair enough - you can smoke - - I don't want to either. I don't like coming home and reeking of alkyhol and smoke from nightclubs. and as I've mentioned I HATE IT how people chuck those buts out of the car... all they do is wash down into the drain and into the streams and rivers, lakes and the seas. I've often wondered - think about how many people are smoking in the world at one instance - there would be like 2 billion people at least!?! Gather all of those cigarettes into one place and light them up... that is one big fire and a lot of smoke... I'm sure this must have some impact on the environment? Anyway... that's not about YOUR health... none of them are - they are all SELFISH complaints! No and Yes... No, they aren't the SLGs, they're all Tori's sitting around a marble table playing cards, there's another one where they're all watching tv. very cool. but.. Yes, (part of) each picture is on the Dent, under Articles -> October -> AP On a different note - I wonder what tracks they'll put on the 'best of' album mentioned in an article on Tori's split from Atlantic? Pro'lly most of the recent singles (including the PW remix no doubt *rolls eyes*) I wonder if they'll do the whole "including two previously unrealeased tracks" thing? *rubs hands* But, does a record company have the rights to _unpublished_ songs of an artist who is no longer signed to them? *scratches head* Hmm, me no know. me go zzzzz. dale. *goes zzzzz* ------------------------------ End of oztori-digest V1 #263 ****************************
