I think Kate is appealing, to me anyway, in that she's totally unique and mad ;) And she seems to have some nifty 'plots' to some of her songs - the plot behind "The Wedding List" is ingenious IMHO. I love the way she sings so consumed with revenge on that. Also, "The Dreaming" album is an absolute masterpiece. And Kate dances very interestingly in lots of her vids.. and she's a witch. Plus she doesn't give a stuff about fame or being a 'star', and stays very reclusive.. Something which yeah is annoying at times b/c she NEVER tours (well, Tori doesn't visit our shores either, so not a whole lot of difference), and takes FOREVER (wow, maybe I just discovered the meaning behind her "Never For Ever" album title - read my words in caps above ;) to make her albums. But I admire her for just doing what she wants. At least she's not being rammed down our throats every 5 minutes. Plus she has a *gorgeous* speaking voice to boost as well, IMNSHO. > I can't work out why I LOVE Tori soo soo sooooo > much!!!??? What's > the go with this? Is it her voice, her style, her > talent, her EVERYTHING? With Tori for me.. again it's her madness.. and the "passion"/intensity with which she writes/plays/sings and the orignality in her work - all of the things I like in Kate too. Plus she's an amazing pianist. Plus both are very intelligent women with a "deeper understanding" (ho ho) of life, I think. Tori is also very outspoken on many issues, especially religion, and I agree with her on most of her views. > But what makes *her* better than Kate Bush, or Sarah > Mc, or Fiona Apple, or > any other singer for that matter in my own opinion? I don't know enough of Fiona's or Sarah's work to make an 'informed' statement (though I love Sarah's voice on Delirium's "Silence", and a few of Fiona's songs I've heard are not bad).. but yeah I wouldn't say either have 'grabbed' me by my prosthetic-balls-made-of-lil-dan's-stomach-lining (hehe) the same way that Tori or Kate did. (potentially long rant condensed down to the "fun size" version to spare you the details): I was kind of "into" Kate first, actually.. Saw "The Sensual World" vid on TV back in '89 and thought she was really cool and weird and interesting, and I loved how she danced 'walking backwards' in the video. I was discovering "weird" music at the time (well, read 'non Top 40' stuff), and I guess Kate was a good introduction.. even though I didn't actually buy any of her stuff until after I got into Tori. But with Fiona.. OK I might get 'criticised' for saying this (:P) but from what I've heard of her (which has admittedly only been Sleep to Dream, Criminal, Shadow Boxer, Across the Universe, Fast As You Can, and Limp), it's like.. every song of hers is some 'relationship gone wrong' thing. And I really don't know enough of Sarah's to comment. > Does anybody have any feedback on this? WHY DO I > LOVE TORI SO MUCH?
