Actually, if this idea is to go ahead at all, I do rather like Lavenda's book suggestion. Books can be easily inspected and assumed to be safe, and a book that she wouldn't be able to get/ wouldn't have even heard of over there (ie, something Australian) sounds like a nice idea.
