There are only three pillars of experimental music - John Cage, Steve Reich & Brian Eno. Eno is probably the most accessible of the three (try doing a search for "4'33"), the other two are very technical in their approaches Eno is just amazing and etheral. "Music for Airports" is a mix of sampled and synthesised sounds that reflect the environment of the airport, and the themes associated with airports (travel, movement, light {although obviously not crashes 'cause it's supposed to be ambient} :). I'm sure his stuff like "Airport" is cheap as chips now so give it a go, you won't be disappointed. And if you find yourself swimming in sound and motion may I also recommend Aphex Twin - "Selected Ambient II" - this guy is the living clone of Eno, and this album is the absolute extreme of ambient electronica, it'll fry your brain :) And for the record I always use "rabid" in the most affectionate of ways, you rabid Tori fans, you. :) /edio' ennui [ MDCodaOWon ] _ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2001 01:45:26 -0800 (PST) From: Nathan R Subject: [oztori] If Atlantic don't treat Tori better, baby she'll just run away... There is a great abundance of sublime independent artists in this country, and none of you know/care about them! I thought i was the only one who....*ahem*...watches...*cough*...'Passions' :) Maybe I am and the above was ennui's way of weeding out the nutcases who watch it, in order to forever taunt them...arrggh!! Oh, and Holly, thanks for correcting me about the Nelly furtado stuff...I had no idea that her stuff got released here SO much later than in America...blech..*stoopid slow Australia*. Can someone tell me (maybe Renee) why there is so much of a difference in release dates? why can't every country get the album at the same time? I remember being in Germany when Choirgirl was released and then coming back at the end of '98 to find that it had just been released here...it annoys me so much! Nilay... The Net 50 is the veritable who's-who of 'alternative' music in Australia. Despite being dominated by prepubescents, as connect-a-mate on Tuesday showed, it still reache millions of people. A high placing for Tori on the Net 50 = more airplay = more exposure = more sales. - -How? Simply Visit http://abc.net.au/triplej/net50/vote.htm and scroll down until you see Strange Little Girl. VOTE! you can fill in details about yourself too, but this isn't compulsary. Once you've voted, you'll be asked if you'd like to vote again. Say YES! Go back, and choose to fill in your own choice at the bottom of the page. Choose Winter by Tori. BOOST WINTER! Since it's not listed on the voting form for the net 50, no one will be able to vote against it in the way we vote against everything non-tori. Thus, our chances of getting it in the charts are pretty good if we all vote!!! - -Extra Time on Your Hands? The Net 50 is heavily influenced by 'Hate votes' (i.e people voting AGAINST songs). To boost Tori's position, vote AGAINST as many songs as you can! you can highlight lots of songs at once, and choose to vote against them. Another idea is to vote against every song sitting above Tori currently (you can find out the current chart at http://abc.net.au/triplej/net50/latest.htm ). Just remember to click on the I HATE option before you vote, or else you'll vote positively for those songs! And remember, if you then go on to vote for Tozza again, to check the I LOVE box. 2) VOTE ON SUPER REQUEST, TRIPLE J ********************************* - -Why? Super Request is Triple J's primetime show, with maximum listeners and coverage. Tori songs aired will reach a shitload of people, and help boost her Net 50 placing. - -How? * if you're in Australia, ring 1800 0555 36 between 6 and 10 EST. if you can get through, request something other than Strange Little Girl, since that's played all the time anyway. Ideally, choose Winter. If you manage to get on air, remember to plug www.oztori.com! * if you don't want to ring, or are overseas, you can go here: http://abc.net.au/triplej/requests/requests/default.htm and vote. Fill in the info about yourself (it IS needed here) and mention oztori in the 'about me' section! - -Extra Time on Your Hands? You can vote for as many different songs as you like, so run through the entire Tori catalouge! Remember, voting for the same song twice is pointless, as Super Request is not run on 'number of requests received' (although, songs that have been requested twice by two different people often get played). - -Progress? Tori's been on Super Request every night this week, including Silent All These Years on Monday!!! 3) REQUEST A CLUB SANDWICH, TRIPLE J ************************************* If you listen to Triple J at lunchtime, request a Club Sandwich (3 tracks of your choice). You need three tracks by different people, but as long as one of them is Tori (something from her back-catalouge) it's cool. Another thought, to make the request stand out and to add a Tori flavour, is to request Blue Skies by BT (which features Tozza's vocals). 4) REQUEST A VIDEO ON CHANNEL V ******************************** - -Why? It's Australia's biggest music video channel. - -How? *Ring 1902 220 330 *To vote online you have register, which is pretty quick, and from there you can vote vote vote.To register (enabling you to log in) go to: http://www.channelv.com.au/register/NewRegistration.asp To vote, go to: http://www.channelv.com.au/by_demand/bydemand_content.asp 5) VOTE FOR A VIDEO ON MUSICMAX ******************************* - -Why? It's Australia's second biggest video channel. - -How? Go here: http://www.musicmax.tv/request/request.asp Search for Tori Amos. Then fill in your info at the top of the Search Results page. Then vote. This site ROCKS! It has heaps of Tori clips to choose from, and according to their FAQ, they play every song requested, as many times as it's requested! Here's a list of all the Tori songs they have. You can vote for them all: just hit back on your browser: CORNFLAKE GIRL CAUGHT A LITE SNEEZE PAST THE MISSION PROFESSIONAL WIDOW SPARK RASPBERRY SWIRL GLORY OF THE EIGHTIES BLISS 1000 OCEANS CRUCIFY STRANGE LITTLE GIRL 6) VOTE FOR A VIDEO ON MUSIC COUNTRY *********************************** - -Why? To get Tori played, of course! - -How? Go here and vote for Winter or Strange Little Girl: http://musiccountry.tv/pr/itsyourgo.asp Any more suggestions? Add them to this list and repost the whole thing to the list again. Get voting! :) l'il dan ===== So then I thought I'd make some plans But fire thought she'd really rather be water instead. - -Tori Amos http://thedent.com/rainn.html ____________________________ Make a great connection at Yahoo! (I'm not a fan - honest - so I wouldn't know) 2) Vuelve or something? (had "Maria"?) 3) Ricky Martin (English album - contained Livin La Vida Loca and some tracks also from Vuelve?) 4) Sound Loaded (had She Bangs and um... a few others) But in total, he's only had 4 genuine 'hits' - well songs that I know of anyway: 1) (Un, Dos, Tres) Maria 2) The Cup of Life 3) Livin' La Vida Loca 4) She Bangs That not maketh a greatest hits album. Yeah I know Tori hasn't had 4 'genuine' hits - but her career is not based on "hits", whereas Ricky Martin's is, because he ain't got any muzakal talent, which Tori has. Nathan. .
