Heh heh, I forgot to mention that I'm going to continue working sitting less than 1m away from my radiation-inducing computer screen, whilst I work in a building that is housed directly under some major power lines, and sit only 4 metres away from the office microwave. Tonight i'll probably have a hot shower with the bathroom light ON (I've heard that bathroom lights can zap instant tumours deep within the most innocent of human skulls), and I will be using a razor (non-electric) which I am sure will deposit some kind of nickel atoms into my skin. I may even drive in my car, which will cause noxious carbon monoxide emissions to be breathed in my innocent bystanders, not to mention.... myself. Oh, and I had burnt toast this morning. Tori Amos' "Strange Little Girls" came out just a few weeks ago, but the distinctive singer-songwriter is close to leaving Atlantic Records, which released that album and all her previous work, for a new deal. With her Atlantic contract expiring with "Girls," she is near an agreement with Epic Records. "We're getting close, but the [new] contract is not finished," says Amos' manager, Arthur Spivak. "Nothing is etched in stone." That would seem to set up a tense situation with Atlantic, which is still charged with promoting "Strange Little Girls," a strange little album in which Amos has created a series of characters to reinvent male-oriented songs from female perspectives. But Spivak says that everything is going smoothly. "Atlantic is working this album no differently, and there are still thoughts that she could return to the label," he says. "The album's doing well. Atlantic's done a great job of marketing her and there's still a long way to go with this record." Amos is touring in support of the album (she'll play the Wiltern Theatre Nov. 15-17) and tentatively plans to release an album of original songs sometime next year. A> I think this is partly correct ;o) pretty much spot on. important things to note is that as soon as a microwave oven stops, so too do the microwaves. Food can **NOT** retain radiation, what you are eating from a microwave is completely and utterly microwave and radiation free. microwaves are flying all around you right this second - they are used for virtually everything, including mobile phones. not using a microwave oven for fear you will die from it is just kidding yourself. in any case, this is my last post on the subject - i am amazed that this whole thing has came up from someones (stupid ;) idea to stick his tea into the microwave for 33 seconds to get a nice black brew :) dan. dan@danhirning.com www.danhirning.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 00:45:19 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: [oztori] #oztori I know it's a busy time, and I for one should be finishing up my ASSignments and getting on with studying for my exams... but where has everyone from #oztori gone... there is no one there - there are usually a FEW nightgeese!?! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 02:05:16 +1100 (EST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Bevan=20Burkin?= Subject: Re: [oztori] blah --- AndrewR wrote: > So do you think that the ebola virus is a good > thing? I liked what somebody (Holly?) mentioned: Everything has to have a positive and a negative in order to be. Which can even make sense from a scientific point of view I guess. Suppose a butterfly flapped its little pretty wings in China somewhere, triggered a whole chain of events that lead to somebody murdering somebody. Maybe that person did us all a favour. Or maybe that person invents or discovers something. And Ebola may save us all one day with a little tweaking. A classic example - all the medical marvels made possible by the Nazi's "research". Murderers? Ray Martin!?! ;) > OK, I will take up this challenge. The positive and negative sides of the following: Eboula virus & HIV/AIDS: I believe that any kind of viral infection is a natural way to cull world population. I AM NOT SINGING THE PRAISES OF THE EBOULA VIRUS OR HIV!!!!! Anything that kills humans, loved ones, is very sad indeed - but because it's simply the laws of being, of yin and yang, that everything must have a positive and a negative side in order to exist, there is some good in everything. So the good that I see from these terrible viral infections is as I state - they would have to be natures way of culling world population. In a world where the population is multiplying almost out of control, nature knows what is good for it. Therefore, nature has devised a way of culling population without causing moral dilemma - i.e., so that humans don't have to resort to killing one another and compromising there own ethics as a race, nature makes it easy. Thus why eboula and HIV exist. Murderers: We know the negative side of murderers - I won't go into that. Positive side: other humans learn off the mistakes of desperate people - I will leave this up to you to get the lesson from this one. Murderers keep people employed: think police force, jail workers, civil servants, lawyers, judges etc. No matter how small, for every negative THERE IS A POSITIVE. And I'm not even going into the Ray Martin one. Something funny I have noticed here is that we haven't turned this argument around to ask where the NEGATIVE is in positive things!!! Consider things we may think have nothing negative at all associated with them: beautiful blue skies and green rolling meadows; winning a promotion at work, a payrise and all the happiness that comes along with it. Now I give you a task: where are the NEGATIVES in these? They are there; you just have to look. I am not trying to bring anyone down. I am just saying that the law of existance is that there must be positive and negative energies associated with any one thing in order to exist. Tori would have to agree, because this is a scientifically proven fact. Yes, I did philosophy at university! Ebola and HIV and all the other nasty virii (according to a human perspective) exist not because of some Divine plan by Nature, but because these particular organisms have evolved from pre-existing organisms, so on and so forth - just as we have evovled from pre-existing organisms - and the deaths of humans is simply a response to the overpowering of one's immune system by the particular virus. That was SO annoying - it was as > if we were all beer-swilling Engineering students who did nothing but go > out every Wed, Thur, Fri and Saturday everyweek just to 'sink the piss'. > (No offence Dan Hirning :)) Anyway - that was such a silly thing to put in > there - like they are getting all 'down with the kids'. > And I think the ALP believe it would be even more appealing to the kids because Labor has always been a party for working-class - and at this age, the stereotypes are that most are working for employers or being extremely left-wingist at university (think activist students who hand out fucking annoying pamphlets and hassle you to 'Put a Stop to Jabaluka Bombing' or whatever the fuck it was.... like I could personally get up and make a fucking huge difference to this piece of political shit.) This sort of correspondence from the ALP is pretty fucked I reckon (roll out the Aussie slang, ta!) I love the 'getting all down with the kids' bit... that sums it all up!!! I used to be big into the political game, but have come to realise that it's just bureacratic bullshit. ANARCHY, ANARCHY, WE WANT ANARCHY! (yeah right.) OK, that'll do. As for computers, now they'll give you cancer. Take my course - Metallurgy. We are essentially physical and chemical engineers, (I'd like to think) intelligent people, but for some reason the only events our club can organise are footy matches where the idea is to injure as many law students as possible, or trips to the Swan Brewery (a few a year)..? I don't get it. And if the Chaser's are rabid lefties then I give them credit for being pretty balanced. That guy with the sticking out teeth is cool, I'm surprised that he didn't make some comment about the Liberal who was (I'm assuming, it's all stereotypes tonight ;) gay as the green glen and saying "why don't you go and annoy the Labor party, why do you always pick on us Liberals?" Let's face it, the Liberals aren't known for their progressive view, particularly the WA Liberal party. My flatmate's mum is a Liberal member of parliament and in her maiden speech she was advocating raising the legal age of consent for gay sex (I think it's already 21?) - actually, does anyone know where I can buy like a Pride or rainbow badge in Perth? I'd love to wear it around the house and annoy her when she comes to visit. :) And Tori... Well she would say - "Politics? You can look at things this way... Similar thang with ebola/AIDS... Maybe it might eliminate a few 'bad seeds'.. OK, extrememly far-fetched and unlikely, but just thought I'd try to show the view of the 'other'. Nathan. .
