I just hope you aren't a trader that spreads these types of sourced files around. having an mp3 collection is one's own personal choice, and I know how technical you can get with encoders and rippers and what-not......but mp3 listeners seem to forget that no matter how good your encoder is or whether or not you use Exact Audio Copy to rip your discs, you are still dealing with inferior lossy files. The quality was thrown away as soon as you decided to delve into the mp3 world. I don't mind mp3 listeners/traders that realise what they have is somewhat inferior, its those that still persist that what they have is no different to what everyone else has. at the end of the day I am going to be happy having recordings of Tori's new tour that are DAT/MD sourced, even if they do end up being SHN downloads, they are still lossless. you can go and download the mp3s of any of the Florida shows right now and rip or encode them whatever way you want, it will not beat the copies treed out from the master in the proper format. xo Gav! http://www.geocities.com/snoutyman/bootlist.htm np: Mogwai - Rock Action ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 00:51:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Nathan R Subject: [oztori] "So don't call me faggot wanker not unless you are a Shakespeare's Pies customer" Daniel Hirning wrote: > hey people... if you are all going to be in enmore > on sunday... > > I'm working from 4pm onwards... so drag your > butts to shakespeare's > pies (in newtown - opposite the post office) and say > hello :) ...and call Dan a "faggot wanker" and he may, just MAY throw a satchet (?) of tomato source at your collective foreheads ;) I sooooooooo want to come into your store and do that! You know, I was thinking about this last night (amazing coincidence!)... It would be a total 'pisser' if they had the following catch-phrases: 1) an eyeball with 'don't know' written next to it - then person jumps in, fumbles and goes.. "I don't know", and it's RIGHT! ;) 2) Picture of John Howard, with speech bubble coming from his mouth saying 'sorry'.. Person jumps in, fumbles and goes.. "Sorry John" (as in burgo)... and it's RIGHT! ;) 3) On the puzzle that they reveal one piece at a time, there is a pic of a man wearing a name-tag reading "John", and to the left of him are the words, "Not yet".. Person jumps in, John Burgo asks if they have any idea, and they go, "Not yet John" and they're RIGHT! ;) hehehe.. *waits for Dylan to tell me I have too much time on my hands* Nathan - "highly strung out, spaced out individual" (Shuv) . LAME is about the best i've come across (yes, dan h, i've done my research), and i would certainly put the encoding method(s) used in LAME up against MD compression. MP3 really got it's 'bad name' from napster, where a goodly number of people were just using the compression engine they could find the crack for... this of course usually meant the *ick*frauenhofer*ick* encoder. and it didn't really matter (to them), because they didn't care much about the quality ... as long as it had BAAAAYYYSS it was fine ;) basically, the point i'm trying to make here is that mp3/wma/ doesn't always have to be bad (okay, so maybe wma wasn't a good example...) .. as long as you're careful, it's fine. and for the record, most DAT machines aren't much better .. yes, they are lossless, but unless you're paying $7000 and upwards for the machine, the A-to-D (analogue to digital) converters are usually shithouse, so you might as well have been sourcing from casette, for all the difference it makes. *breathe, zac, breathe* all that having been said, you're right - attention to sound quality when creating the master for the bootleg makes all the difference in the world. as my lecturer used to say: "shit (quality) in, shit (quality) out. doesn't matter how many tdm plugins you throw at it." zac ================================================== zac ariel - web junkie m: 0414 229 299 e: zac@bit.net.au p/w: zac.home.dhs.org b/w: www.level21.net ================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 05:52:37 -0700 (PDT) From: Natty Subject: Re: Re[2]: [oztori] Who's been a busy boy? While some people wouldn't admit to something like institutionalisation for shame, l'il dan did admit to it. So, good on you l'il dan.
