The next day the kids came back and one by one began to tell their stories. Ashley said, "My father's a farmer and we have a lot of egg laying hens. One time we were taking our eggs to market in a basket on the front seat of the pickup when we hit a big bump in the road and all the eggs went flying and broke and made a mess." "What's the moral of the story?" asked the teacher. "Don't put all your eggs in one basket!" "Very good," said the teacher. Next, little Sarah raised her hand and said, "Our family are farmers too. But we raise chickens for the meat market. We had a dozen eggs one time, but when they hatched we only got ten live chicks, and the moral to this story is, Don't count your chickens before they're hatched." "That was a fine story Sarah." "Michael, do you have a story to share?" "Yes, ma'am, my daddy told me this story about my Aunt Mary. Aunt Mary was a flight engineer in Desert Storm and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory and all she had was a bottle of whiskey, a machine gun and a machete. She drank the whiskey on the way down so it wouldn't break and then she landed right in the middle of 100 enemy troops. She killed seventy of them with the machine gun until she ran out of bullets. Then she killed twenty more with the machete till the blade broke. And then she killed the last ten with her bare hands." "Good heavens," said the horrified teacher, "what kind of moral did your daddy tell you from that horrible story?" "Stay the fuck away from Aunt Mary when she's been drinking." *************** http://www.geocities.com/sarahvox ICQ: 131558324 "I was reading about what was going on in Afghanistan--the way women were being oppressed, the destruction of religious statues. I remember reading something/seeing something where Kubrick had told Spielberg about his idea for this movie. He knew he couldn't do it with the technology at the time. (I think he wanted to actually build a robot boy or something!?!), and that the length of time he takes to soot his movies, the boy would have grown up! So he entrusted his vision of the movie to Spielberg. Spielberg has said he has tried to keep it as close to Kubrick's vision as possible - and I think he has done a spectacular job. At times It 'felt' like a Kubrick film - not that I'm an authority... I'm mainly going by 2001 - it has that 'majestic' feeling to it. A truely magnificent film. My god the effects - they were seemless, it was unbelievable! I felt so sad for those 'older mechas'. :o) Jude Law - I have never had an opinion of Jude Law, now I can see why so many people rave over him - he did a fantastic job in this movie. He was so belivable. Haley Joel Osmet though... if that kid doesn't get an Academy Award nomination - even the actual statue for his work, there there is something VERY VERY wrong going on. I don't think there has been an actor so far this year that could stack up against him. Frances O'Connor - she has to get best supporting actress. (She's Australian!) She thought of it as a romance/drama after seeing it...totally wierd! xoxo dan ;) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Sep 2001 11:40:31 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: RE: [oztori] fight club (irot) At 09:49 28/09/2001 +1000, Holly Williamson wrote: >> its like american beauty - its >> either a really black comedy or just a horrible film. >> >> > I've never seen Fight Club, and now because you've compared it to >American Beauty, I am going to have to get it out over the weekend! >American Beauty is one of my all-time favourite films... and Kevin Spacey in >that is just awesome. > > I might have to get American Beauty out over the weekend as well!! >Awesome! > > much love etc > Holly > Warning, Fight Club and American Beauty can NOT be compared, sorry Dan! American Beauty is just some wonderfully amazing... Fight Club, is not a bad movie - when I saw it at the movies It was great, and started building and building - but then fell flat on its face... you'll know what I mean when you see it. It was like they wanted a trick ending - but it just didn't work that well. Also, repeat viewing isn't as good as the first time. Daniel/Renee, on the DVD - I heard there was supposed to be a few alternate endings for the movie (Fight Club, I mean). And that the commentary by Pitt and Norton is supposedly hilarious - cause they get more drunk as they watch the movie! LOL! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Sep 2001 11:51:09 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: RE: [oztori] fight club (otto) At 11:43 28/09/2001 +1000, Daniel G wrote: >> I might have to get American Beauty out over the weekend as well!! >>Awesome! > >Yes...I must see that film again too...When I was working for NSWP last >year a lady/woman/girl there asked what people thought of American Beauty >and I said it was the funniest thing I'd seen in years, a total black >comedy. God, I'm an alcoholic compared to you too. The last time I had a drink was Wednesday night, and I got rather drunk. Looks like the same is happening tonight. Gotta say, I agree with Jasmina. Garbage does nothing for me. I wouldn't say they're crap, but they just don't 'tickle my fancy'. Same with Bjork, and Ben Folds, well, I haven't really had much of an interest. Though, I do love "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces". So good. > > J> (havent had much to say lately) > > and we are ever so grateful And unfortunately Dan, you're not following suit. Jude Law has never really done much for me, but I was very impressed with him in this role. Haley Joel Osmet - ok, that kid is *amazing*. He amazed me in 'The Sixth Sense', and he's done it again in 'A.I.'. He's gonna be big ;) And Fraces O'Connor. I had no idea she was Australian! Go girl! I love that chick - I have since I saw 'Bedazzled'. She plays the role so well in A.I. I read somewhere that in order to capture the emotions needed for the role (in the case of when her character's child was in the coma), she went to support meetings for couples who had lost children. Heavy shit. I mean like those introductions. I know we've done them intermittantly over the last few years. I reckon to make this community a little... more !?!accessible!?! We should compile them and put them up on the web site! Then those people who join up might know what they are in for! And I reckon we need imput from EVERYONE on the list - not those who have no life *cough* *ahem* I mean post regularly. ;) And those who DON'T post regularly could put that in a section like "regularity of posting": frequently, intermittantly, now and again, lurker, never or something. Then they don't have to feel too afraid about actually posting, but can still be 'listed' on the website. I think we should work out our catagories first - and not use ones from other places/lists on the net. (well, OK, only if they are funny catagorey). So I thought this e-mail could just work out what info we could put up... and then it shouldn't take much to stick it on the website. I don't know about anyone else, but I loose track of who is who a lot of the time - especially with all the Dans. Well, I can pick Nayth's posts ;o) So what do you all think? I'll start some categorey suggestions here, feel free to add to them, and the we can whittle/add/whittle/add until we have something which is appropriate for oztori. I presume all of the categories are allowed to be left blank by the participants. Oh ALSO, I was thinking - fill em out when we work out our categories - but send them to the one person to put on the site - instead of filling up our inboxes - cause previous times, I just got TOO many to read at once - and so forgot about them, and if they're on the web, we can read them at our leisure? Sound like a good idea? ok some category suggestions (don't reply yet - we're just working out categories) Nick: Real Name: e-mail Address: Country: (oz/nz/away from the country a bit/visiting australia for a while - - like Nadyene was) State: Location/Town/City: Age: (heh heh Dan S) Occupation/student etc Fave quote: Fave Tori: - -album - -track - -track from each album?? - -most sentimental tori item Favourite musicians Favourite Bands Favourite types of music (I guess if they don't fit into the above two categories) Favourite Movies Favourite Actor/Actress TV shows you regularly watch Buffy fan? ;o) Favourite Book most recent book/currently reading Favourite food/drink/drug Favourite font!?! ;o) How long you've been on the 'net How long you've been on oztori (maybe include legthy absences) How'd you find out about oztori? Who from OzTori, you've met Favourite Tori website Favourite website in general How you were introduced/got into Tori Amos (this'll be a lengthy story for a few of us ;o) ) OK... they're all the easy ones, now we need some creative/clever(piss-funny) categories, which I can't really think of at the moment... but I'm sure some of you could find some/work some out. Maybe even a photo/carictature SP? (cause well, I have no online photos - well any photos that are not embarrassing) So we need more cool/interesting/thought-provoking/humourous/clever catagories. Anyone... anyone... Bueller... Bueller... ;o) Andrew P.S. just checked - had onelist typed in again! D'Oh. ;o) ------------------------------ End of oztori-digest V1 #177 ****************************
