It was nice, didn't really blow me away, but it wasn't bad. If you could have Tori play one song at your birthday what would it be? Ordinarily I'd say something like "Talula" or "Professional Widow", but at the moment I'm very into to the little medley of Butterfly/Blue Skies/Hyperballad. As for Big Kev and Dick (head) Smith.... they're hardly encouraging you to "Buy Australia" but rather fund the Big Kev and Dick Smith retirement funds respectively. The fact of the matter is even products produced overseas contribute somewhat to our economy when you buy them - - there are distributors, retailers, customs, quality control, local hubs for international companies. To say buying overseas creates nothing for Australia is naive at best. Just A. B. (gasp) A bit later on, I was rewinding a video with Caught A Lite Sneeze on it... and I just went.. *sigh*.. for the days when Tori actually wrote her own songs and had half-decent vids. Care to send me an mp3 of this? ;) I have the Butterfly/Hyperballad (well, it features about TWO lines of Hyperballad right near the end - *hardly* a "medley") one, but not the one with Blue Skies in it.. unless I just haven't spotted Blue Skies within said "medley" (sic). > One wonders if you were an Arab in America right now > if you wouldn't > hope to be included on a Phil Collins sampler... I actually like Phil's rendition of "Groovy Kind of Love". I think Tori could do an ace cover of it.. maybe as a medley with Cool On Your Island, just to take the piss out of herself. But she seems to be doing that rather nicely these days without taking heed of my suggestions... (obligatory 'tongue-in-cheek' departing comment). Nayth. It's not clear why the virus isn't detected in the blood supply, but it could be due to human error or failures in the tests themselves, said former advisory committee chairman Dr. F. Blaine Hollinger, a professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. "But on the whole, he said, the nation's blood supply is 'extremely safe.' Many of those who favored the current policy were concerned about diseases other than AIDS, according to Hollinger, especially since gay men are susceptible to many illnesses. 'The risk is not so much with the diseases we can test for. It's for the diseases we don't know about,' he said. 'That's a difficult thing to resolve.' "However, Hollinger supported changing the policy to allow gay men to donate if they hadn't had sex in recent years." ok, end of extract, the harping begins... **NO** scientific test is 100% accurate (in fact, nothing in science at all is 100% accurate.. - its a fact of life - deal with it) so the chance of infected blood getting into the donation bank is, while unlikely, still a possibility. As a 100% non infected blood bank is the number 1 priority, all steps should be taken to make this as much of a reality as possible. If this means excluding the highest risk group from donating, I hardly think you can call it homophobic or discriminative. And with the current statistics, I am quite certain the policy won't be changed any time soon. if you 'step back' from the issue, and stop screaming 'homophobic' as soon as you see that gay men are excluded from donating, surely common sense will prevail and you will see that it really isn't all that hard a thing to understand the reasoning behind. I do, however, believe that the policy should be changed to allow gay men to be able to donate who haven't had unprotected sex in, say 2 years or so, as the current policy is harsh, and, unfair. The reason you need to allow time is because the HIV virus can NOT be detected if it has only been in the body for a short time (and i believe it can 'hide' in the blood without detection for 6 months or something) taking a look through the list of who/what can't donate blood, it's not as if the gay community are getting singled out or anything, if the statistics didn't make them the number 1 risk in contracting HIV then I am sure they wouldn't be excluded. but the sad fact is, statistics do say that. there is compelling reasoning behind the exclusion, and if you actually thought about it in a rational way without jumping to discriminative conclusions it should make some sense... so far, the only reasoning anyone has been able to say as to why gay men *should* be allowed to donate blood.... is that its discriminative if you don't allow it! Ha!! - and its us straights that need to 'open our minds'... what a fucking joke. and finally, i have received 3 private emails and 1 email to oztori saying that they don't find it discriminative for the exclusion, and 2 complaints that it is 'homophobic'. So all i can say, is thankfully, at least 67% of gay men can use rational thinking... a quality, it seems, you don't possess. BB> In fact, you constantly refer to gays in a negative way through an BB> almost transparant film of political correctness: that, i believe, is a contradiction of terms... People generally don't have a terribly accurate recall - ie, "was it 2 years ago this September, or will it be 2 years in November. I can't be sure?" It's not like everyone walks around with a calendar detailing the precise date/s of their last sexual encounter/s. And anyway, of course there's a big element of 'trust' in these things. How easy would it be to lie, and say you haven't/that you're not gay/etc.. and then just donate the blood. The big assumption here is that everyone is telling the truth, which, of course is not very likely to be the case.
