Homophobia doesn't always mean going out in kicking a gay guy's brains in, although it can take that form. It starts with an attitude that sees queers as somehow inferior human beings. It's difficult to understand - for someone who's never been subjected to a form of minority discrimination or oppression, be it sexism or racism or whatever. But it gets institutionalised in things like the law, to protect the 'normal people' (which really in most cases means white middle-class males). For example, by making the age of consent for homosexual contact higher than for straight contact, the law is sending forth a strong message that an expression of homosexual love is inferior and less suitable than 'straight' love. Which is f**ked. Homophobic comments are insulting and unneccessary, like any discriminatory comments. They make queer people angry, and there is no place for them on a Tori Amos mailing list. So please don't make them any more. Compassion, Jason xoxooxoxoxoo __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? I don't doubt for a second I'm going to get shotdown for this email (and unlikely a certain Mr. R I don't go out of my way to be sensational to add to my notority). PRAYER I must admit I had the same impulse as Nathan... people told me to pray and I was like "um.. no I don't do that". And it's not so much that I have a problem with the concept of praying, but really it poses a rather important personal question - who am I praying to? I feel great compassion for those who have been affected by this incident, but I don't think I should go against my own personal religious beliefs to conform to a norm... especially in a situation like this where nothing tangible can come of it ('it' referring specifically to prayer). BLOOD Well um.. if you want to donate blood by all means, although I think the Americans seem to be looking after each other in this regard. Although don't let that stop you, the Red Cross is always in need of blood for local purposes... especially around times where accidents (mostly car accidents) are promiment (i.e. Christmas, long weekends, etc.) and rare blood types. MONEY Well actually I'm not really talking about 'money' in its most simple sense here, but indeed the economy. I guess really it's still quite early days now, but basically nothings getting in or out of the US. Now for a moment stop and think about what it would be like to be an exporter or importer at the moment. Sales are obviously going to either drop or be non-existent. I don't think this would be much of a problem for America - it's a very big place with a variety of industries. They can almost seal themselves off from the rest of the world and be pretty much content, in terms of trade at least. However this isn't a legacy Australia can afford. Perhaps all the other countries in the world can rearrangement their trade relations to compensate, although I doubt it. If America is this nervous, it wouldn't surprise me if other places cut themselves off from the rest of the world. I think the biggest danger is if we, Australia as a nation, suddenly going into our own shells and stop spending. I've never been one of these people who berates people into buying "Australian" for its own sake, but this is a whole different situation... But anyway, as I said - still early days now. Therefore you are, no doubt. I mean there is no doubt that you are. You aren't actually the band No Doubt. Are you? (see Trey, we're all crazy). Remember, email me the photos and I'll website-ise them for all to see, laugh at and ridicule. > How'd you find out about the list? Did you think > "wow coool"? If not why > not? There is no other acceptable response besides "wow coool". This has been an official announcement from me, God (with a big G - *teehee* pun!) > Be nice to Dan because he's the boss and be mean to > Nathan because everyone > is and be mean to Daniel (Hirning) because he's mean > to me. So THERE! Its okay you can be mean to me. But when you suddenly find yourself being emailed tons of porn spam and stuff, its not my fault. No, seriously, it won't bother me. But the general rule is don't personally attack anyone. Except maybe Nathan on occasions where it is warranted. Also, you aren't allowed to dis "China". That I take personally ;) > PS OT means off topic IE not about tori. It took me > ages to figure that > out. Yes. You're allowed to talk about anything at all provided you put "OT" or make it obvious in the Subject line (eg: "Aliens stole my parents and then Bjork was beamed down from the spaceship and did a private show for me and Trent Reznor wants to marry me and oh by the way theres nothing about Tori in there at all"). But we mostly talk about the Tozmeister. And we're all of varying religious beliefs and sexual orientation so its kind of an anything goes mentality, just try not to offend anyone. Only Nathan and Dan H tend to be good at that *grin* Basically its just one orgy of emails. Yay me! I rule! xoxo Dan ;) ===== Get your free @yahoo.co.uk address at http://mail.yahoo.co.uk or your free @yahoo.ie address at http://mail.yahoo.ie ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 06:24:06 +0000 From: "black-winged roses" Subject: RE: [oztori] Oztori Tori drunken sing-a-long@Club UK Yup, I was there!
