Will possibly have a posse, and would be more than happy to combine with OzTori crew, so if anyone else is going and interested in hooking up, let me know on 0417403032. Brisbane - Looking forward to possibly meeting fellow toriphiles Nina and Zac while I'm up there. I'm there from 22/9 til 29/9, my number's just above, I'll probably call someone at some stage during that week - I'm sure someone's telephone number was in their sig... LE v UTP - Well, LE doesn't have the same weak, airy-fairy qualities of UTP, or the sheer lamity of Baker Baker to cripple it, so it wins hands down. But indeed as someone else noted, neither of them is Pele, so why bother asking? UTP isn't even choirgirl :P Belle & Sebastian - There are more of us here who are fans; you can add me to the list. Oh and bonus further Tori content - I was at Uni today doing singing stuff for Macquarie Uni open day, and One of my friends starts singing a little tune that sounds REALLY familiar to me, but difficult to place. After grappling for several minutes with my obscure memory banks for this song with mention of a carnival... my suspicion was confirmed when I went up to ask her what that song was she just sang, and she showed me the page in the music book 'Carnival', subtitled 'Manha de Carnaval' (or however you spell it). She did quite a pretty rendition too, but not nearly as outrageous as that bizzaro-chick with the red hair and heart-shaped-pretzel-eating fans ;) LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Once at Manly we lunched then too Maddi down to the beach - stripped her down to her nappy and had HEAPS of fun! You're like the second person to have bagged UTP b/c of it. When I first got UTP, I think 'twas my fave song on it, but has since been superceded by Icicle, Space Dog, and Pretty Good Year. Dan Gee or someone said UTP was more 'accessible' than LE.. WTF???!! I thought the reverse was true - UTP has far more 'cryptic' lyrics, and unusual song structures than the, for the most part, verse-chorus-verse format of LE (note: I am *not* bagging LE here! It is probably my fave Tori album actually, but I do believe that UTP is better in *some* ways). > so it wins hands down. > But > indeed as someone else noted, neither of them is > Pele, I think Pele is amazing in its whole concept, and how it 'reads' as a 'story' from beginning to end, and has many hidden underlying themes and nuances... BUT, IMHO, BFP also has the most "junk" of any Tori album thrown onto it - ie, Agent Orange. And whilst I do like most of those short songs such as Way Down and the like, it's like.. they're cute, but sometimes it flows all a little 'jauntily'. Muhammad My Friend, Little Amsterdam, Talula, Doughnut Song, and Twinkle, dear as they all are, are *not* amongst Tori's best work, IMHO. Even Hey Jupiter, I feel, plods on a bit after a while, sweet as it is. And I've never liked the fact that it blatantly rips off "Purple Rain" without even crediting it! I've always thought BFP has been slightly over-rated for some of these reasons. 'Tis also a *long* and demanding album to get into. But, I really am *not* bagging it here. I also happen to *like* the crazy vocal ad-lib stuff at the beginning of In the Springtime of His Voodoo... > so why bother asking? UTP isn't even choirgirl :P For a while after getting 'choirgirl', I thought it was my fave Tori album... but then I realised that Liquid Diamonds, Pandora's Aquarium, Northern Lad, and even Jackie's Strength which grated on me after a while, are not, IMO, her best work. Three guesses as to what I downloaded and yes it involves "my girl missy". lol I don't know how many people know about this but I actually did create bitchweek@yahoogroups.com but no one subscribed to it. Hmmm.. isn't it about time we did that again? The first ever bitch week on Smoe! ;) JustABoi (who has a Nelly Furtado bitching session ready to go on any available bitch week day) P.S. If you play Missy Elliot through Windows Media Player and hit control+alt+delete at the exact moment she goes wo-oooow.. it loops it. ;) __________________________________________________________________ Get your free Australian email account at http://www.start.com.au ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Sep 2001 12:48:39 +1000 From: "Nerida Hooykaas" Subject: Re: [oztori] sex-U-L-E-T > > really? that's odd - since quite a few of the chickies i've met off this > > list are gay. (again). The ep where Saffy gets married is classic. It's a two episode feature called The Last Shout. Eddy and Patsy go to Valdezare (sp - too stoned to go to dictionary.com) get very pissed, have fondue and trash a hotel room. There is no way you could forget that! Turns out it doesn't have that Sioban (sp again) chick in it but rather her other half from shakespears sister, Marcella whats-her-name. And she has an *amazing* voice and sings at the wedding. It is so fucking funny you have to see it. ONE (only) major dissapointment is that bubble isn't in it :( but patsy makes up for that ;) You can probably get it from K-mart or Target no worries :) Bevyn http://travel.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Hmmm.. isn't it > about time we did that again? The first ever bitch > week on Smoe! ;) OK... I'm going to kick-start BITCH WEEK into action.. Here are a few things I need to get off my chest: 1) People who habitually ask "HOW ARE YOU?" when you see/say hi to them. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Everyone always says "good/fine" etc., when 9 times out of 10, then aren't really... And the person asking "how are you?" never gives a shit anyway. Well, I certainly don't. 2) People who are dumb and try every 'natural remedy'/'alternative therapy' under the sun, thinking it will do them some good. Now, I consider myself to be reasonably open-minded, BUT I draw a clear line at 'spiritual healing', 'aura-cleansing' and the like. I have a friend who is a sucker for this type of bullshit.. and it's never done anything for him. 3) People who claim to be psychic, and their bullshit ads they place in magazines meant for airheads (hello women's magazines) - eg. "Kerry Kulken, a sixth generation psychic, and her team of hand-picked genuine clairvoyants"... Pass me the sick-bag please. Although, they are the ones laughing to the bank - there is money to be made out of stupid people. 4) Our education system. The sole purpose in schooling is to strip you of any individuality you once had, and turn you into a generic clone, 'ready for the workforce'. Gosh... and it's not even Monday. Nathan. . Dutchman was originally and some original promo tracks had Dutchman finishing the album, with LE after Happy Phantom. Its BITCH WEEK II. > 1) People who habitually ask "HOW ARE YOU?" when you > see/say hi to them. I must admit I am guilty of this. I always answer "Oh, not bad" to anyone who asks me LOL. Unless I'm asking someone I know well/answering someone I know well In which case I care about their response. My big bitch of the moment are stupid-arse Uni essay questions along the lines of: "Which model/paradigm/viewpoint do you consider the most interesting for an analysis of the Australian Media landscape?" What do you do if they are all as dull as ditchwater? Actually, I think I could spend a more entertaining Sunday sitting in ditchwater than here avoiding writing the damn thing. Also when they give you a question where you get to pick the subject matter [eg - - "pick a cultural practice and analyse" or similar] but this is only some sort of consolation for the fact that the question is a) boring as all get out and b) difficult as all get out. I'm getting out. The Letterman show appears to be on the 18th in the States... stay tuned on when it'll be on here Weird Tori hearing... Earlier today while munching on strawberries I hear a familiar tune, and gasp as I look up. CALS was being used as background music for the Sunday RL Footy show as they went to their adbreak. The footage was of the Knights winning against the Roosters... so were they saying the Knights are jsut a little 'achoo' and aren't going to win this year, or was it for the Roosters? And in case you hadn't guessed, I'm not a lesbian. ;) X Lavs ------------------------------ End of oztori-digest V1 #142 ****************************
