Hi everyone! I'm a naughty naughty boy... I went on a wee cd spree. Spent $100 I think? Oops... anyway, I got... Cafi Del Mar Volumen Ocho - laa laa laa it's soooooooo lovely, I love these compilations, some of the best compilations that have ever been strung together. I'm listening to it now, and it's just simply lovely. Sarah McLachlan Remix Album - WOOOOOOOOOWWWWEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! This cd is such a MUST!!!! I can't believe I waited this long to get it - it's flippin' terrific. George, Special Ones single - what can I say, George are magic. and.... yes.... Bjork, Vespertine. Although I was a bit scared to listen to it when I got home because I was a teeny bit bent, and most of us would know what it's like to listen to Bjork when you're sitting a few feet above the clouds. I'll get to it later.... Ahhhh..... I sent the following last night but it seems not to have gone through, so I try again... This is a very interesting moral question that has been posed. I would not press the button for 1 million dollars. I agree with Jasmina that there probably is an amount of money at which people would begin to consider pushing the button. Think about it in these terms: Would you push the button that kills one random person for $1M if the money were to go to a charity that could save the lives of thousands of people? For $1Billion that helps hundreds-of-millions of people? To cancel all 3rd World Debt and thereby free up Trillions of dollars that can now be spent on food, health and education for the World's Poorest? Getting to this stage I do begin to consider it, uneasy though I am about it. Is the greater good served by preserving one person and condemning billions, or in sacrificing one and saving billions? I disagree with Jasmina in her belief that all people are basically greedy and have their price. I would not push the button for any amount of money if the result is to my personal gain. However, as I wrote above, I would consider it if the money goes to help others, but the amount of money and the number of people aided would have to be rather great. But then the question arises "Why is X dollars and Y people better that X-1 dollars and Y-1 people?" Much though I Love it, Philosophy can be a bitch. The only way i would press the button is if someone i knew and really loved - - say my mum or baby maddison & Tayha - would die if i didn't - and it would only be me who died from pressing it - i couldnt sacrifice another person for it because although i love my mum Maddi & Tayha more than anything - whoever it would hit would have people out there who love then just as much - what if it got a baby - or a person about to celebrate their 100th birthday - or someone pregnant with a child? Or someone else you knew? So i could only do it if it were me for one of them (and i say Tayha and Maddi because Maddi is so young and has a whole amazing life ahead of her - and i could never imagine her growing up without her mum either - i wouldn't want to put a kid through that - not being able to remember who their mum was) and in my will i'd leave them the $1000000 (yes - i'd make an amendment to my will before i pressed the button!) so yeah - no f*cking chance basically :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 09:27:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Dan Stapleton Subject: Re: [oztori] my $50 on the matter (coz i'm worth so much more than .02 cents...) - --- Darwin Clan wrote: "> I'm a naughty naughty boy..." anyone picking up a subtext here? His Magik compilations (specially the earlier ones) where excellent... - as are his in search of sunrise I & II... oh, and his latest release, in my memory is also excellent ;) His version of silence is excellent IMO. As for the track listing... - well considering none of these tracks where mixed for this album - i guess they where at mercy to what actually had been remixed of her stuff already :) worst song on the album is Plenty... - not a song that should have been remixed in the first place... And why anyone would mix angel.. is beyond me... should never have been done... but yes, the BT stuff is, as always, brilliant.
