I warned you didn't I mate? Say it again and you'll be singing soprano. >Why not? Everybody needs to put food on the table. Look, I'm quite sure that Tori has enough cash accumulated to feed little Natashya until she's a fat little kid with bad skin and a penchant for sticking curly straws up her nose. My poor fool readers and nunkle, I fear that some of this fold may desert our Tozza, even if and especially because her mind is gone, and I think that's rather sad. I wouldn't mind so much if people were a little objective and said "this is what I hear" - "this is what I think is wrong with what I hear"; it's called 'critical comment'. How poor Tori must suffer knowing that anything and everything she does will be personalised to the extent that a particular person, on a particular day, in a particular, almost particulate spot on the globe will believe that she (Tori) is actually and purposefully acting to spite this very particular person... or worse still she is trying to please only them. I think we have firmly established that Tori is not Brit-borg-ney. I think that it is fair assumption to say that Tori does not *have* to release an album, either for money or contractual arrangements (I say this with little or no actual knowledge of the subject but from what I have seen of real record contracts they rely on the provision that the output an artist does release must be released through a certain label, rather than absolutely requiring the artist to put out material within a particular time frame {and I doubt very strongly the assumption that Tori would still be under the same contract terms as that of Little Earthquakes era, or would have entered into any such constraining contract when she had the bargaining position that a relatively successful album would give her}). [and breathe..]. Perhaps Tori did not originally conceive this project as a full blown album? but imagine the truly thunderous out-cry that would have ensued had she simply performed these songs in a small piano bar in Seattle, or given a few limited copies to random people on the street, or perhaps sung them as she rocked herself to sleep in a sanatorium out near heartland Maine. No, she has instead decided to place them on a flat, silver disc and let people grab them up as they please, and while I am eternally grateful that she has seen fit to do so I do feel that I won't really be rushing out on release day but instead may saunter out a few weeks later when I have both the cash and conviction to do so. Surely it's no great skin off of her nose, and for sure we both will meet in better circumstances a little later when her vision and excitement for this idea enters my own imagination, one day. In the mean time though I'm not going to bitch and whine about how she never listens to anything I say, and doesn't care a whiff for my feelings or thoughts. No, I'm just going to keep writing this damn long and quite possibly boring email, with almost no point - no, wait.. hmmm couldn't find a point, yep no point to this email whatsoever, but I hope you all picked up the King Lear reference, I thought it sort of fitted in but now I'm not so sure - you see don't you? Tori as King Lear, and if may I be so bold as to take the part of Kent - well, no it doesn't fit in *that* well but we must make an effort, mustn't we? I know, I know.. OH. MY. GOD. Have some respect." Actually, I don't think he can. It runs completely against every fibre of his being. Nathan, the man behind the controversy said- "Re-phrase that paragraph above by replacing every Tori with "Britney", and it still means the same thing. Brits doesn't write her "songs" (that lame "Dear Diary" co-writing credit does NOT count), and they sure as hell aren't "Her Songs"...and I am not a Britney fan.. I'm just pointing out that, really... is what Tori's doing THAT much different?" Well, the song's Tori's using are good songs... Britney's songs suck from the word go. On the plus side, they're all so similar, you can sing them all on top of each other! Try it! Hit me baby one more time! Crazy, I just can't sleep cause she's so lucky, she's a star, but sometimes I run, sometimes I hide, sometimes I'm scared of you, from the bottom of my broken heart, bring on lady marmalade! Oops, sorry, wrong pop princess... but I can never tell them apart anyway. The other good thing about Brits is how absolutely hilarious she is... my sister had her first album, and was unimpressed when I fell about on the floor laughing after discovering one of the songs was called 'E-mail my heart'... Have fun at the Sydney party everyone... I wish I could be there! Michelle Visit Michelle's Lounge http://www.geocities.com/tamantha I'm multitalented. 'nuff said. i think y'all expected way too much out of this. i'm still going to buy the album when it comes out, and, judging on past experiences, i'll probably like it. zac ================================================== zac ariel - web junkie m: 0414 229 299 e: zac@bit.net.au p/w: zac.home.dhs.org b/w: www.level21.net ================================================== ------------------------------ Date: 23 Aug 2001 20:55:13 -0700 From: Zac Ariel Subject: Re: [oztori] Whenever I'm alone with you On Thu, 23 August 2001, Nathan R wrote: > Plus, all of the songs you have mentioned above, apart > from Cooling, are covers (well Humpty Dumpty is half a > cover really)... so are not completely "Tori's". since we're being so precise, since when does a song being a cover preclude it from being a b-side? a (loose) definition of a b-side is a song which is included on a single/ep (in which the "a-side" is from an album) and said song is not on the same album. generally, it is also accepted that a rare song which is not from an album is attributed as a "b-side". whether it is a 'studio' recording or not, so long as it is/was an official release, is irrelevant. zac ================================================== zac ariel - web junkie m: 0414 229 299 e: zac@bit.net.au p/w: zac.home.dhs.org b/w: www.level21.net ================================================== ------------------------------ Date: 23 Aug 2001 21:03:42 -0700 From: Zac Ariel Subject: Re: [oztori] OT: Bjork On Thu, 23 August 2001, Daniel wrote: > Find an MP3 of "Humpty Dumpty" - she has custard in > the summer, honey! If you can't figure that out, then you musn't understand Tori's perspective of making music. And, you may as well get yourself a copy of one of Britney's albums while you're getting SLG.
