The psycho-acrostic model that most (in particular the LAME) encoder use now is quite brilliant at bitrates even as 'low' as 160. Couple the with say a VBR (variable bit rate) where the encoder (on a frame-by-frame basis) decides what to encode the frame as (from 32kb-320kb) and I would find it virtually impossible to believe that you could pick the difference from the real cd. A big audio mag in europe did a test that involved 300 "Audiophiles" testing MP3s on and the Sennheiser orpheus electrostatic headphones (*drool* - makes my HD580s look pale in comparison). The results, 90% of mp3s in 128kbit was picked out. at 240kbit not one person could distinguish between the real cd and the mp3. while badly encoded MP3s sound terrible, and 128kbit ones being so obviously MP3 encoded it is quite easy to see why mp3s are regarded as having bad audio quality... but the truth of the matter is that a properly encoded mp3 (ripped with a secure mode ripper to guarantee that the wave file encoded is as digitally perfect as possible), is basically indistinguishable from the real cd. I suggest you look into the LAME project if you wanna know more about it, because it is, by far, the most accurate of all the encoders. And like i said, the psycho-acrostic model it is currently using is quite brilliant... The theme of that album is death, and while that theme is alwyas morbid and depressing, this album gives a sense of hope within the theme. I reccomend that definately:) Natty ===== - - intermission - http://www.torn-apart.net/intermission/ - - Proud Amberholic - http://amberholics.amberbenson.net - - W/A lurve - http://washippers.envy.nu Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! A relative of mine died last month and I sought some music to have a good old cry to (so the following titles might not be what you are after). Stuff by the Cranberries - their album "To the Faithful Departed" is good (tracks: Joe, Cordell), as is that song by Sophie B Hawkins "As I Lay Me Down". For mood music with few words search the Internet for Katcha - Touched by God (the Light Remix) - the song is not religious but it evokes feelings which you might find helpful. Other songs: Pie Jesu - ? This is an operatic piece penned by Andy Lloyd Webber and some other guy. Sometimes sung by young male tenors - it's beautiful. The Masterplan - Oasis Wayne - Chantal Kreviazuk On my way home - Enya In this life - Madonna To Martha - The Smashing Pumpkins Merman - by you know who Peace Dan C Original message from: "Darwin Clan" > >Hi guys, I apologise for the sombre email in advance. > >What are some good songs to listen to when someone you know dies?
