To me, people like this are not 'true' Tori fans. Tori has always done some extreme things, covering songs that people would be surprised at. Personally, I am not surrpised by the concept of this album, because that's the sort of thing that Tori does. I mean, look at the topics of her songs, the covers that she's done. Being outspoken, she's always gonna touch on a controversy, becuase that's how she works. People like this piss me off. They act like the stuff that Tori does is totally unexpected. Expect the unexpected with Tori, that's how I look at it. No two albums are ever gonna be the same. If these people don't know to expect this, then they don't really know Tori's music that well... I've never heard the original version of either '97 Bonnie and Clyde' or 'Strange Little Girl'. But, I *love* 97 Bonnie and Clyde, and Strange Little Girl is growing on me. I don't think the problem is with the song, 97, but rather who wrote it. I mean, how much publicity has Eminem been getting? But, that's why Tori has used his song. The point of this album is to make people listen, and if they're unknowns, if they're songs that haven't made an impact of some kind, the point would just be futile. [j/k]. mood/theme wise - neil's to me is a song of despair and resolution at the fact that he's searching for a HOG [noone told him to get thrown out of a vogon airlock, obviously] and he's getting old. tori's is so much more "i'm searching for a heart of gold and i ain't gonna rest until i find one dammit". i can see a filmclip. a cross between natalie merchant's "carnival" and the one i have in my head for tori's cover of "carnival" [title coincidence wow!].of course, now that i've seen a filmclip, there isn't going to be one. the clips i predict are never actually made. *sigh* anyways i'm off to do stuff. i love tickets, dan ;) oh btw - dido is writing a song for britney spears' next album. btbtw - green nail polish, edgy or icky? ===== people honk at me i shake my fist sometimes give them the finger i don't know why i always lie to you - - jane siberry "barkis is willing" Get your free @yahoo.co.uk address at http://mail.yahoo.co.uk or your free @yahoo.ie address at http://mail.yahoo.ie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Jul 2001 16:21:44 +1000 From: "Darwin Clan" Subject: [oztori] Things to say Hi everyone!! Email stuff.... well, what I find weird is that a reply to a message arrives in my mailbox before the actual original, so to know what they are on about I have to read all the quotes first. That happens kinda often, so I end up sifting through emails to find the originals, and THEN read the replies. Hmmm... weird. Bjork fans... I downloaded Hearts & Bones (remix) and Verandi today. Verandi is really, really cool. It's not going to be on Vespertine but I think it's definitely going to be a b side on the Hidden Place single. The Hearts & Bones remix is ok, a bit strange, but still a lovely song. For Verandi go to www.snip,com and click on the Bjork special page on the bottom left hand corner. Hearts & Bones came off a link from www.bjork.com , can't remember which one, but it was the one at the top of the list. You'll figure it out, you're a clever bunch : - ) All this new Tori gear has inspired me to go and hunt for the teasers from Bjork and Alanis. Are there any such things from Massive Attack and their album which is due out later this year? TheDent people... well some of them are a tid bit nutty. Selfish is a word that comes to mind. Self absorbed... there's another two. *miaow* says my cat! Yeah. ~Andrew~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Jul 2001 16:17:45 +1000 From: "Nerida Hooykaas" Subject: [oztori] the whole mariah thing... Ok i just have to put in my two cents for Mariah....i do like her...so there...I said it =P you can all shoot me now. Anyways, I ain't a huge fan or anything, but some of her stuff is ok...I do have varied tastes though. Nathan said: > apparently she was on Rove during the week (no, I was > *not* watching!), and my friend saw her being > interviewed.. God forbid I should actually have > a personality!" Hahaha.. I wish I had seen her say > that myself! It was sooo funny!! I have seen her like that in a few interviews actually...she's always jokin' around...so, anyhoo, she really ain't so bad =P I guess if you don't like pop..... you don't like pop! Just wanted to add my opinion =) Love Neri =8O) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Jul 2001 16:40:07 +1000 From: "Darwin Clan" Subject: [oztori] full stop, not commar!! Dammnit.... the link to get Bjork's Verandi should be www.snip.com . My bad. For those who cared, I am still alive. Though barely. QC was an absolute blast, I learned a lot, and met some really amazing and cool people. Including an Oztorian briefly. Had I known more of us were there I would've organised some sort of Tori faction to keep the CHOGM well balanced :P Then I got back from QC and became violently ill with tonsilitis. I have no documentary evidence of this, but I'm pretty sure it must have had something to do with me seeing how many Oztori emails I had to read through (I've just read all 341 of them, by the way...). So there has been such exciting news in my abscence - I hear talk of new albums from Heather and Suzanne, and we have access to songs from SLG! This is all pretty big. Heart of Gold rocked my world, '97 B&C was so creepy (use of breathing is wow), and my connoection is currently working on SLg, but I'm sure I'll love it. Well pleased. Smiles to all, and know that I'm going underground soon and also on COMPLETE detox.
