Just quickly, in response to John: >I might be wrong, but arent the rights to the recording and the rights to the song itself two different things. tori, for example, publishes her songs with >sword and stone (lyrics by permission of, etc), whereas atlantic owns the rights to the recording? I would love for someone 2 correct me Yup, Sword And Stone (which is administered by Tori's dad) are the publishers, therefore they own the rights to and control the music and lyrics and authorise reproductions etc, and also collect royalties for the WRITING. Atlantic represent Tori as an artist and collect the royalties from her albums/singles for TORI. Does that makes sense? Actually, Tori's got it pretty good. Because Sword And Stone isn't signed to a major publisher (i.e. Sony, Warner/Chappell, EMI etc) she gets more money for the writing than she would otherwise... And this means Tori has absolute say in where her songs are used, how they're used etc. Um, is that making sense? If not, um... ach well. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jul 2001 16:04:49 -0700 From: "Hill, Renee" Subject: [oztori] where'd you put the keys girl just wanted to tell everyone that i got a beautiful little bunny on the weekend, she's so cute...i named her cornflake. i know y'all will get it. I've still got one and it may even have credit on it... I'm in the Conservatorium Choir and the Chamber Choir at the con. Exciting stuff. If you can meet up with me at the Conservatorium one day, I'll photocopy it myself! And yes, the uni still has cheap photocopying with the funny cards... and if you know the right sequence of buttons to press on the copier, you get FREE photocopying... AndrewR said- No, don't worry - there was definately a Bartok, Bella Bartok. 20th Century. Don't I know it. I spent a fair portion of last semester writing a seminar on Bartok's life. Fantastic composer. (Had a bit of a thing for younger women, though). If you've ever got $10 to spare, chase up one of those cheap 'classical' music CDs that has Bartok on it. You won't regret buying it. It's gotta be one of the lamest, funniest things I've ever seen. Sadly, I still didn't understand what the hell it was on about. Maybe if they'd used hand puppets, I wouldve understood...
