Hi everyone!! WOWOWOWOWOWOW what an intense few days on Oztori! gee I go away and WWIII breaks out....sheesh. A lot was said. I'll summarise my comments in an impractical jumble with no quotes (WAY too many emails to find quotes from - sorry!) I'm just happy that Tori is doing something. I think anything Tori is interesting, and therefore enjoyable. I don't give a shit that it's a covers album, it's music, and I love music so I'll enjoy it. Speaking of music, and perhaps a little trashy too, but a friend leant me his Fragma album - it's unreal! I'll get onto printers tomorrow about t shirts n stuff, I just got home from my holiday. Speaking of my holiday, I had a WILD time. To summarise.... I drank a lot, smoked a lot, didn't sleep much, got naked (twice - I suck at strip poker), caught a fish (YAY! of edible size too, a Kouta fish, 33cm long), did a nudie run through the middle of Cowes, was on the radio (!!! we rang up the radio station and I was on the new Mix FM (oh dear....) and won stuff). I have way too much fun with my friends... poor Phillip Island will never be the same after our visit. Get your copy of the Cowes local paper for the sealed section report on our visit. ~TiredSmellyHungoverAndrew~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jul 2001 03:06:05 -0700 (PDT) From: Nathan R Subject: [oztori] rice bubbles zac wrote: > > else wrote the bit that Tori is actually using. > Like > > for her cover of "Happiness is a Warm Gun" is > written > > by Lennon/McCartney...so Ringo and George won't be > > getting anything. You may have noticed that my email address involves the word "molasses" (83 people had got there first, grrr), and we were discussing the word itself. Jean asked its significance to me. To which I replied: I love the word molasses for a coupla reasons... 1. just the sound, the way that "mol" rolls on the tongue, and "asses" lingers...it even sounds syrupy. 2. I had a relationship in washington state, nw u.s.a., that seemed to parallel "northern Lad" very closely, so it has always been a special song for me. (I wasnt sure if I was the northern lad or she was, though) 3. I like to think I am sweet as sugar. :) And I always liked the idea of liquid sweetness, sweetness you could pour. 4. Lots of people dont know what molasses means, so I always feel really smart when I get to explain it 2 them ;) To which Jean replied: >>It has a strange staging in my mind too ... the word molasses ... sounds >>sweeter by far than sugar, and the liquidity and fluidity is a temptation. >>Sweetness which stays sweet but can shapeshift at the same time. Aaaah ... >>lovely notions. Which leads me to ask a general question; are there particular words that you hold close to your heart, whether because of personal associations, the way it has been used by a certain artiste, or hell, just the way it sounds? Alanis content: I love the beginning of the third verse of UR, where she sings, "dont mind us star-ing, were surprised youre not in a fa-r gone a-sylum" I love the way she sings it, where the vowels are rounded and sustained, until the words become beautiful, soft things. Especially the "a" sounds. Aahm crazy, ah tell ye. Love, john. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jul 2001 23:35:39 +1000 From: "Becc" Subject: Re: [oztori] Re: Thorpie > re the homophobia thing...it shits me up the wall when that happens! > completely OT are you going to QC this year? I have just this moment worked out which word NathanR was forced to censor from one of his earlier emails - p-e-r-s-o-n-a-l-i-t-y. Ugh! I had to wash my mouth with liquid soap (containing little moisturiser capsules..) Poor old Tori, nobody trusts her, think she'd better go and eat worms, her fans have all had their brains washed (presumably without little moisture capsules) by the simplistic corporate view of music where the person is synonymous with the artist. I think that if ever one was so enamoured by Ms Amos' skill and eye that they would deem her to be more than simply an 'entertainer', perhaps even an 'artist', then they should be forever trusting that however strange, unbalancing her latest project may seem she would be physically incapable of 'selling out'. I've been pleased to see that most people on this list have greeted the press bulletins with a measure of candor and control. 'Merkins are stupid. I once told a sailor that the reason I wouldn't talk to him was because I was allergic to Americans - he said I was racist, so my point is proven :) I forget what the point was but the majority of Americans are stupid; let's all trust that Tori knows what she is doing and the mushrooms haven't warped her perspective, err.. in a bad way; I'm sure the music industry insiders on the list will correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a cover the worst way to sell out, ie: you don't make much money on them, bit like remixes of other people's stuff? We'll soon (well, not soon, but soon enough) be stablemates...won't that be fun ;) According to the Sun Herald the Aus release date for "Strange Little Girls" by Tori Amos is September 17 - can you confirm/deny that for me? Well, I just wanted to apologise for stating the obvious, restating the same old news re: strange little girls. So much for having my finger on the pulse ;) Nathan pulled me up for posting before reading the four oztori digests stacked up in my inbox. And fair enough too. But I was just so excited. Really, I was :) Nat Attack wrote: >>Excuse my complete ignorance of these matters.. but Ian Thorpe is an ozzie swimmer, right? lol.. Thorpedo or something he's called? Is he the bald guy? Or is that Matthew somebody? *lol & re-adjusts dunce-hat* Permit me to conduct an olympic swimmer class, 101. After all, I do have various months torn out from the Olympic Heroes calendar and blue-tacked to my wall. Ian thorpe is indeed Thorpedo, slightly awkward but endearing boy who fears no world record. He has caused speculation re: sexuality due to a confessed love of kylie and a predilection for label clothing (superficial, I know). Grant Hackett is toby to his billy (a neighbours analogy :) OH, I have to go now, run away to work. Here is Nathan scolding me, just for the record. >>Well, just as I am completely oblivious to goings-on in the sporting/celebrity world, YOU seem to be completely oblivious to the past 30 or so postings to this list, already spelling out this information.
