Subject: RE: [oztori] (OT)New Alanis album+ Big Brother Excellent. I know a lot of Tori fans like Alanis, and I was expecting a backlash from my comment. I bought the album for $5, and it put me to sleep, almost literally. It's all the same. It's like Fiona Apple's first CD - the only decently produced songs on that album were the singles, and that just made the rest of the cd sound badly made, boring, and monotonous. Thanks, guys for all your talk of Big Brother... so I go to bed after reading all 137 e-mails and find myself dreaming of BB... argh! LOL! The strange thing is... I was 'a BB member' and part of the 'show' and trying not to reveal who I voted for... ALSO, the other people were the people from BB, yet they weren't. It also felt like a cross between the Mole... that after dinner where the Mole reveals all his Molish tricks and Survivor with an annoying host like that guy from Survivor. Probst or whatever! ARRRRGH... Reality TV dreams! NOOOOOOO! ;o) Maybe it was my brain purging a years worth of the crud!?! P.S. I bought a Lisa Germano album yesterday/last night... I finally succombed (SP? - who carz) ;o)) well I didn't succomb SP!?! Rather, I finally managed to remember her name... I only found one it is "On The Way Down From The Moon Palace" and it was only 19.95... So I went to pay for it and the guy goes "that's 31.95" and I went ARRRGH! HEY! It says 19.95... and he says oh - yeah - um that was a sale price... I got it for 19.95 though! So In the store I listened to a bit of the first and second tracks and thought YEAH! So I nabbed it up. It doesn't have that 'heart-breaking' song that Dan? mentioned before... well I don't think it does. I haven't actually listened to it yet! Its been so long since I've gotten any new CDs, that I've just recently got another two... finally got "Selma Songs" more than a year after I was pestering the music stores, as to when it was going to be released! and Amnesiac... by Radiohead... I've yet to listen to either. I also got the Fifth Element (Le Cinquihme iliment) Soundtrack 2nd hand... and am currently listening to that. Its really great! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jun 2001 10:48:12 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Daniel?= Subject: [oztori] lisa germano [non-tori] > Rather, I > finally managed to remember her name... Congratulations you now have her first album, which is DAMNED HARD TO FIND! ARGH! I've only got it on MP3...Is it the 'official' one on Major Bill records or the Koch[?] re-release? > It doesn't have > that 'heart-breaking' > song that Dan? mentioned before... well I don't > think it does. I haven't > actually listened to it yet! No, it doesn't. I find that Moon Palace is more bright and poppy as a whole...although Riding My Bike [the 'single' (it has a filmclip @ www.launch.com)] is a bit dark...My faves off MP would have to be "Hanging With A Dead Man", "Screaming Angels Dancing In Your Garden" and "On The Way Down From The Moon Palace". The heartbreaking one is "Cry Wolf", off Geek The Girl [her third album, although probably third-and-a-half if you get technical and include the first release of "Happiness"]. I can wholeheartedly recommend all her albums to anyone. "Happiness" is best if you're angry or confused or tired or depressed and just sick of it. "Geek The Girl" is in 3 parts - the scary slash-your-wrists part [which includes "Cry Wolf" and "Geek the Girl"], the oh-god-i'm-so-unsexy-why-can't-i-find-love part and the final ah well whatever part. "Excerpts from A Love Circus" is good for all problems romantic [although "Messages from Sophia" & "Lovesick" lean towards to depressing, gems like "Baby On The Plane", "Small Heads" and "I Love A Snot" are pure and perfect alt-pop. And "Slide" is best if you're depressed and finally getting used to it. They're all available from 4AD [Love Circus + Happiness have recently been re-released with bonus tracks], except for Moon Palace and the original version of Happiness. But I wouldn't bother with the original Happiness unless you really really really love her - its more a curiosity than anything else [ie - - different mixes of tracks, a 'new' instrumental piece and a bizarre cover of "these boots were made for walking"]. I'll stop now, lest I do for Lisa what I did to Jane Siberry to you all! LOL Or maybe I'm just bored. Probably bored. just riding my bike, Dan ;) ===== people honk at me i shake my fist sometimes give them the finger i don't know why i always lie to you - - jane siberry "barkis is willing" Get your free @yahoo.co.uk address at http://mail.yahoo.co.uk or your free @yahoo.ie address at http://mail.yahoo.ie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jun 2001 10:18:25 GMT From: kyla@ihug.co.nz Subject: Re: [oztori] lisa germano [non-tori] I've seen her twice performing with Neil Finn, and I think she has the most beautiful voice. It's not bad, got a lot of good names on it. I only really got it for the NIN song, which is excellent. Otherwise, the album's alright. There's a lot of chemical brothers-like music, and I'm not really into that. The U2 song is alright, but the NIN one is better, and it's the best track imo. Really? I think its terrible!!! Its so "NIN tries to recreate sound and emotion of The Fragile but just comes off with piece of crap instead". Much like "Burn" and "TDS" [although I think "Burn" is infinitely better than "Deep"]. Its [dare I even consider saying it] almost as if Trent has decided to go commercial-NIN [don't worry everyone, I'll be too busy flaming myself to notice all your flames]. And the filmclip is, frankly, utter utter UTTER crap. I won't be rushing out to get the soundtrack having downloaded the video clip [full screen MP3 - link from www.nineinchnails.net/news/upgrade] but will get it 2nd hand because I'm the kind of person who does just because NIN is on it.
