Well the term starts with "Aqua" and is symbolised by a water bearer, so I can see why people would make that connection... it's probably just an air sign that likes flirting with water.. um.. take from that what you will. lol I was in the process of writing a really long Profile for the oztori site (if Nathan gets his own page, I want one too :P) when Start.com.au decided to "automatically log out" on me. Firstly, am i th eonly one that thinks TImmothy McVeigh should not have been executed? Why should anyone be killed, it's stupid to kill people because 'they deserve it', 'an eye for an eye', man i hat ethat stupid crap, no one should be killed, i dont care what they've done. Like, sure he was responsible for a whole lotta deaths but you cant just kill people, god i hate the US, but there's my litttle binge on that.... Man, i remember all those cartoons that have been mentioned and my fave cartoon ever is Astro boy. One I have never known and dont think ever will is Rainbow Bright, i've had many conversations on that and I still have no idea about that show. oh and transformers rock... not long ago i found some episodes on tape, i wonder what happened to that tape...hmmm...... on cool shows that rocked...is there any punky brucester fans on this list....wasnt that show the coolest.....i think i spelt it wrong though..... So, I was bored and decided to read a book. So I went to my school library and was actually amazed to find that there was a neil gaiman book. I was so wowed at that, if you had any idea about the crappiness of my school you would too be shocked. But so I read this book - Good Omens - The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter. Its by Neil and Terry Pratchett. Has anyone else read this book? It is so damn hilarious. ummm.......yeah so I swear there is this one bit in the book which describes one of Hell's Angels - her name is War, but I swear to god her description is a dead ringer for T, and as i was reading I couldnt help but think Y cant T read cover. Just the sword thing, cos in the book War is given a sword, has anybody else read this??????? If you have I'd be really interested if you think/thought the same thing. When I have time I will most probly write out the part of the book I'm talking about, but I'm way to busy atm, I should be writing an essay, and doing research for this crapy crappy and even worse crappy assessment task i need to do, and i also need to do a report on unemployment and how to fix it - due two weeks ago but i think it can wait even more, oh and i also have some crappy chem crap to do, but that like everything that has to do with chem can wait till i've done everything else. Why do teachers all give you work to do at the one time. Do they have little meetings and plot against us students? What is wrong with these people? Maybe its just this new crappy HSC, it sucks, The board of studies is so retarded, they are i swear, sorry if you know folks that are in that area but they are screwed, totally, but i'll stop whinging about school, arent most of you glad you are no longer in high school, u c that you all seem to be beyond that stage in life and well there are few of us on this list that still attend that meaningless boring establishment that we do, called high school. so, my train of though has fully gone off the planet, cant think what i was on about....... oh and i'm also sticking up for dan S, being younger that others is good, you can use it to your advantage greatly, just think that when older people get old we are the ones that are left to look after you weirdest thing ive ever dressed up as- i once dressed up as a red M &M, i think it was a funky idea, it was for some fancy dress thing, i have a fancy dress to go to next month, what should i go as, any suggestions? so, as i'm writing this i'm also reading other emails, I'm catching up cos i couldnt access my server for like a week, but so im reading all these emails and came across cq sayingthat shes also into tracy chapman - who i can not stand at all, but i turn around and say to my sister, 'hey this chick like tracy chapman' and she is like 'oh ok, cool' but then my sister in law said ' i used to listen to that guy' is that not hilarious, she totally thought tracy chaman was a guy, lol ok, cant remember who said this, but how on earth do you run out of petrol. i dunno maybe i'm being too naive or something, but ive never understod things like this, dont you check when you are drving, like if the meter thingy is on the red line stop at the servo, it aint that hard folks, ummm.....if there is any audio engineers on this list can you email me off list, please ummm....i'll stop rambling now....... oh hey, i figured out who george is on saturday, i was driving around and was listening to the net50 and on came that song, and i was amazed to find that i love that song by george, dont you love when thing sliek that happen ok, i'm going now, gotta start on my homework after reading mail for 3 hours, its funny the things we do to avoid study...i love it....what would the world be without procrastination? i would nto want to know, it would seem to be toooo organised ok, im seriously ending this email now. goodbye so long ta ta 4 now Jasmina p.s. sorry to anyone for reading this email, cos i know it must be boring but folks, that book i mentioned, man its the funniest thing ive ever read, i recommend you find a copy and read it, ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 18:14:24 +1000 From: "Lavenda" Subject: Re: [oztori] Never was a water sign.. > Meanwhile what star sign is Tori? I too thought "what sort of an idiot wouldn't fill their car up with petrol if it were running out? Well.... you see, I have this not-so-odd young person thing of living week-to-week on my pay. You see I get paid in cash, not into my account, so it's not a matter of going to the juice station on the way. Well... this particular morning... I'd been out the night before and spent the last $10 I had on petrol before embarking out on an enormous journey (I hate designated driving). I went to Collingwood (north of Melbourne) from home (south of Melbourne) and then drove my friends home to Mt. Martha (almost off the map south of Melbourne) and then home again (which is about 35km from Mt. Martha). So it was no wonder I ran out of petrol on the way to work the next morning, but it was worth a go trying to get there : - ) I thought my car did well to go that far on $10 of petrol though (there was virtually none in it when I put the ten bucks in, so most of that trek was done on, say, 10 litres of petrol). There seemed to be two 'blocks' morning (edu-tainment!?!) TV ;o) and The Afternoon Show... hosted by Michael Tunn and James Valentine (was he before or after) Did he actually host The Afternoon Show or was he on the 'TVTV'?? Wasn't there something EARLIER with him in it - with that 'Michael' guy Afro/English guy who was on 'Wombat'... it was called Big Eye TV or something!?! Now these are HAZEY memories ;o) >, Berenstein Bears, >Inspector Gadget: I rest my case - TV was much better when I was >knee high to a leather goddess with a sword. > Oh, YES! Inspector Gadget, was just AWESOME. I wished (still do) I had the watch and book thing like Penny! (The crazy thing is now, you probably could!) >She-Hoo sayd: >>Aaah! Does anyone else remember 'Teabag?' (not a cartoon, but still relevant >>to the 80s anyway...) It was about this little girl who had to travel > >Hey - Teabag! Every kid should be brought up on a healthy dose of Narnia, >the Goodies and perhaps some cod-liver oil, for strong countenance. ;) > Ahhhhh The Goodies... You can't forget Monkey... (For some reason everyone at school called it Monkey Magic) Now Monkey is just a CLASSIC! Still is... Did anyone know that there was another 12 episodes of Monkey that were never dubbed into English! The English voices quit or something, so they were never made for English speaking audiences - which is a crime! It always ended at that 'Wasp Mother' episode... Ahhhhh afternoon ABC viewing. I soooo loved the TV Series of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe! (Got em on video now). "Mr. Tumnus do stop it at once!" (is > that too hot for the list?) No, it's ok. I'm in the middle of a personal diatribe about this stuff, and not sure if to post to the list or not. Personally, I feel the Australian legal system is not for the real people, although if you can afford it, you're ok. I can relate my family back to Ned Kelly, that doesn't mean I'm about it rob a bank though. My main bitch is the lack of reality in court cases. A person can go forth before a court, and their past history can't be brought forward... ok, I'll stop now, but I bet Seneca must be spinning in his grave! Bring back the Furys in my opinion. As for Timothy... the Army/Marines taught him well. Anyone else remember reading how an Army officer fellow said "if we had a hundred of him, we would have won Desert Storm sooner."? Anyone else remeber how his fellow soldiers made bets that he couldn't blow the head off the enemy about a 1.5K away?... and he won? (he actually aimed for the torso, hit it, and the pressure of the high-powered slug, the position, and human anatomy made the target's head pop. It is possible. Trust me.)To put it nicely, he was taught well. As for his actions in civilian life... that really should be explored. Ah dammit! I was saving my diatribe for the 'excecution validity' bit! Ok well I'll just say here that if the military forces assume that the people they train (especially *how* they train them) think that it's easy to automatically revert back into 'civvy' mode when they leave the forces,...then they're in more need of counselling than their troops in civvy world. I come from a military family, and i have seen there is a lot to be desired. Time to quit here now. After all, don't want my brothers in the army getting chastised because of a pissed off sister. take care peoples. cq *********************************************************************** FREE ANIMATED eCARDS! I absolutely adore that band... When i was sent a tape of their first album back in '95 from a friend in the US i don't think i listened to anything bar BFF for at least 2 months... They ROCKED! :) Ahhh.. memories.. Now THEY are a band that toured oz (3 times to be exact)... And they are the nicest guys as well (meet them 3 times, on 2 different tours) They sure could teach tori a thing or two about touring... (incidentally, the next solo album from ben Folds is suppose to be out in the next few months, had a june release date, but has been pushed back, maybe as late as september... if anyone cared..) (and no, it isn't fear of pop II) > There seemed to be two 'blocks' morning (edu-tainment!?!) TV ;o) and The > Afternoon Show... hosted by Michael Tunn and James Valentine > (was he before > or after) James Valentine was before Tunny. Valentine was a far better host.. he use to do cooking one day of the week.. i use to love that :) and yes inspector gadget is fucking cool :) Had that as my mobile ring there for a while... ahhhh and i remember playing the theme when i foudn it as an MP3 really loud, put it on repeat, turned volume right up, and walked out of my college room back in first year..... Gee did i piss some ppl off that night... (which was the sole purpose...) - geesh i hated college.. OOOOooo i could bomb the place... One of these days i might just do that... Is it just me, or does the whole college thing (specially the USYD colleges) just not fit in very well with our modern society? They should be banned IMO.... the whole culture/society they breed is just completely and utterly not in line with the rest of todays society. Formal dinners, forced going to some crappy religious ritual once a week, 25% of one college marrying the other college.. (gotta be some in-breeding happening as a result IMO) it just doesn't make sense... i'll stop my whinging about that now.... i'm not angry anymore... i'm over that whole terrible year... (can't wait till i get either access to a machine gun or a huge bomb.... the world will be less a few colleges by the time i'm finished...) d. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 02:40:17 +0800 From: "ennui" Subject: RE: [oztori] Rather then kiss me you said you'd rather die 'Special' engineer little.d sayd: > i'll stop my whinging about that now.... i'm not angry anymore... i'm over > that whole terrible year... On the face of it we may decide that execution is the best option but what are the real costs? Martin Bryant no longer exists, he was shunted away quickly from the public eye (hopefully never to emerge again) and all that was left was the victims, their loved ones, and their grief. In Oklahoma on the other hand Timothy McVeigh is likely to live on forever as a martyr to every Confederate nutter with a grudge. I was watching cable at work on Sunday (probably CNN) and had to keep myself from throwing up, as what they were running could only be described as "A Nation Celebrates An Execution" - if any country will carry on with disturbing traditions it's America for sure. I'll cut this short - an Existentialism list I'm on is discussing whether a truly humanitarian society can justify retribution in any form. I think it's a good point - should our primary goal be to seek some form of justice for an act committed by a member of a society, or should it be to simply remove the perpetrator from society? I personally would like to see simply a full natural-life prison sentence with the option of euthanasia - I wouldn't want to be responsible for inflicting harm on anyone, even someone who has perpetrated a crime as horrific as that in Oklahoma, and after watching Dancer in the Dark I don't think I could ever find an acceptable circumstance for the death penalty. Sorry to Daniel.h, I was going to make this dissertation funny, that's why I started with Daniel's execution, but now I don't feel like it - it was funny though having someone say that right in the midst of the execution thread. And now I read that Muslim rebels have beheaded an American hostage, well it's good to see that everyone can get in on the act.. ennui [dulce et decorum est pro patria mori] _ ------------------------------ End of oztori-digest V1 #38 ***************************
