That show was very well attended, although I'm aware that some of the folks there had come for Tom McRae, who played before him. Who could prefer McRae to Currie? It's beyond my comprehension. The very friendly woman sitting next to me was a hardcore McRae fan who stayed for Justin's set on my suggestion. When I told her he was the lead singer from Del Amitri, she said "Oh my God! I knew he sounded familiar! What a blast from the past!" After the show she muscled her way up to the stage and went on to Justin about how she hadn't heard anything about him for so long, she couldn't believe it was him, what a blast from the past, yadayadayada.... I think she made him feel like a relic. Ha! So hasty that they left out some cities where Del Amitri always did well (like Chicago!). And Ryko didn't really promote the 3 shows much either. I really hope he didn't take all this time to get another deal only to sign with a label who is going to ignore him. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2007 18:43:44 +0100 From: "Alessandro Campobassi" Subject: Re: OV: more NYC videos, plus SF show recount Well.. the newspaper reports back in 2002.. GROSSLY exaggerated why I fly from Australia to Southampton to see Del Amitri live... I was really on my way to Sweden for a wedding, and just stopped off in UK for the gig.. but the nespapers weren't interested in that side of it...!!! Anyway - I did get to hang out with Del Amitri backstage drinking beers and having a laugh for a few hours so it was definitely pretty cool. Very laid back lads indeed. I will try and get to a Justin gig in the UK this October! (no, not flying from Australia, I live in the UK at the moment!!) Later! PS. Great story about the text messages Jeff.
