Anna!! Hello there - it's good to know you're still around here on OV. If Justin does release this solo thing we may just need a separate inbox once again (wishful thinking, I know). Hope all is well with you. I'll check out the vinyl listing on eBay. Believe it or not my husband asked for and received a cassette/cd/record player for Christmas and I've had such fun playing old vinyl on it including early Robin Williams and George Carlin performances! The bulk of my musical record collection is probably too scratched to play; I've got a Beatles album my cat once danced on while it was playing and now it looks like one of those collectible etched discs... :^D TTFN Susan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2006 18:08:34 EDT From: Dbr980@aol.com Subject: OV: Re: Gin Blossoms I too saw the Gin Blossoms open up for Del Amitri back in the mid 90's (when their album New Miserable Experience first came out). If anyone lives in the northern NYC suburbs, the Gin Blossoms are playing a free "family" concert in my town. They are the musical entertainment before the fireworks for the Fourth of July. Considering Robin used the "f" word quite liberally last time I saw them, it should be quite different. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2006 18:32:26 -0400 From: "Rachel Wifall" Subject: RE: OV: Re: Gin Blossoms Which town, pray tell?! Basically Doug Hopkins was the original songwriter, but was booted from the band before the first album was finally released and eventually he killed himself on my birthday in 1993. FYI - They played here in Tempe along with another Hybrid Recording artist, Vertical Horizon, at this year's Tempe Music Festival (headliner was John Mayer Trio) at the end of March. Let's hope whatever lead those two to the festival brings Justin here next year (too)! As for the new Justin and Dels songs... The solo songs are excellent. Although, I think I've endeared myself to the Blazin' Fiddles accompaniment from the Celtic Connections deal last year. As to the Iain collaborations,... They're growing on me, but indeed sounds a bit "SICKENINGLY MAINSTREAM" in parts. Of course, it took me a couple years to grow to like SOSP and CYDMG after their initial releases. SOSP is now one of my favorites. Go figure. Some of those tears, on the other hand, strikes me like a lost b-side... Regardless, I'm eating it all up and relishing every new note. Ted Lehman Tempe, AZ P.S. Myspace... Where have I been all this time? Thanks to it and a bunch of you all, I've stumbled into a number of cool new tunes. Eileen Rose, Wow! And Rachel, I really like your Belong, Belong... Beautiful.
