Funny! But hey, when we love someone, that is the way it BE! Oh, and I am currently listening to Twisted in my car....brilliant as ever!!! Elizabeth - ----Original Message Follows---- From: Reply-To: To: Subject: Review of Tim & Neil at Burswood - Perth Western Australia Date: Wed, 20 Jul 2005 12:22:24 +0800 First of all it was a brilliant night in a beautiful venue and packed to the rafters! I was sitting centre 4th row from the front! They are playing again tonight but sadly I can't go. First up was Mercury Rev - interesting, quite good, quite weird but a bit monotonous. Anyway I really was not there for MR so finally on came our boys! H'n'P Report Tim long silvery grey hair - he has quite a mop and is looking gorgeous! Whitish shirt with a bit of blue detail in the front, brownish pants (I think - hard to tell in the light) yes he was wearing shoes Neil long brownish hair - could do with a tidy up cut a few wild bits of hair and a long fringe, but looking very cute as always whitish shirt - sleeves rolled up, button up red vest and I think brown pants with "fairly new, slippery brown shoes" Please beware I am technologically challenged so I hope this is ok Some background music to build the tension then, they bounded straight into Part of Me - (Neil on piano for the 1st 4 songs) which sounded wonderful - - the band seemed to be great also and gave all the songs a real lift. Dirty Creature was next - excellent - Tim doing his stuff! World WYL this was followed by some banter about the roadies choosing which alcohol was going to be drunk on the night - and Guinness had been chosen except Neil only had water but this was soon rectified !! Then there was some discussion re Neils 'fairly new' slippery shoes as he went for a test slide to roughen up the soles - it's all so in the moment and they are just such unassuming human beings. Won't Give In and then Luckiest Man Alive was next with Tim on piano - both were excellent and being so close to them was just amazing. Distant Sun (my favourite song of all time) and Nothing Wrong With You followed and then Angels Heap with both of the boys on guitar, they sing so beautifully together, and really you can just 'feel' the songs I don't know how else to describe it. they are both standing there, eyes shut, playing guitar and just 'doing it'! Disembodied Voices was played with the lights down, John the guitar tech joined them for this one and the atmosphere created in the dark was spine chilling - just perfect. Neil now back at the piano for the beautiful Persuasion, Tim on guitar and then Homesick followed. I'm not a fan of this song - but it was outstanding. There was a staircase which was lit up going the centre of the venue which Neil had said earlier was looking quite 'heavenly' there had been some talk about Mae West, and dancing on the stairway - too much to remember though Anything Can Happen was brilliant - I love this and I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong but it looked like a 12 string - well worn by the state of it too. Which reminds me Neil uses a gold looking electric guitar for so many songs and that really looks like a well loved treasure!! Encore 1 was Suffer Never - brilliant!!!!!! Time for a Change - with Tim on piano followed by a truly wonderful I Got You so good to hear these songs again Encore 2 4 Seasons and a beautiful singsong tribute for Hessie - Neil looked quite emotional but seemed to be jolted back by someone calling out from the crowd at the end of the song 6 Months was next and by now what can I say except that the night finished off with DDIO - and sadly they were gone. It was such a fantastic night - all age groups and an appreciative crowd. I managed to get a set list from the piano, from John the guitar tech - so thank you for that!! hope you enjoy reading this - Nicky ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V7 #88 *********************************
