I'm very hurt....... I'm Irish and have loved The Dels since the first time I heard 'Kiss this thing goodbye' all those years ago, - while on holiday in Scotland in '89. It sent a shiver of pleasure down my spine then and still does, especially at full on volume driving on a sunny day, today would be perfect 29 degree's and Cork is looking good. They played Cork, I think about '98, I remember Jason was in good form, found a bike 'prop' in the wings and cycled on stage on it. Just bought UDS off Amazon, first play yesterday, weird! Will need a few plays I think, loved the Gilbert O'Sullivan song straight off tho'. Saw The Finn Brothers here a few weeks ago, fantastic gig, brilliant rapport with the crowd, Neil was in top voice, what a singer. Anyone ever heard of 'Danny Wilson'? Another of Scotland's finest, not unlike The Dels in that they never received the recognition they deserved. 'Mary's Prayer', their one really big hit. Long split up unfortunately but I still get anything Gary Clarke their singer(what a voice) produces. He did a live version of The Hall & Oates song 'Sara Smile' a few years ago, sublime, even better than Daryl Hall belting it out and that's saying something. Agree about 'Just getting by' When you consider all the musical garbage out there jamming up the airwaves and a piece of perfection like JGB is left to rot on an unsold gem of an album. Life sucks! This list has introduced me to bands I never would have heard of otherwise. It's been great, and I'm glad to see people checking in again. I was young and obnoxious then, my fav post still has to be trying to convey the eeek sound from Psycho in text. I still lurk here, occasionally popping in with the odd post. I have to say though, I only tend to read some of the posts - as a general rule of thumb, if I have to scroll I don't read it (sorry elizabeth and leah!!! ;)) I've seen so many good bands recently, Ben Folds was amazing a few weeks ago and as for U2 at Croke Park!!!! Just back from the oxegen festival outside dublin - Snoop def stole the show although the killers were pretty amazing too. New find of the moment is a guy called Duke Special - he's absolutely amazing. Check out his stuff at www.myspace.com/dukespecial he also has a website but the myspace one has video and song clips. OK, best recent concert and new find from people - limit it to 1 each, I'll start: Best gig: Ben Folds New find: Duke Special Andy On 9 Jul 2005, at 22:07, Dave wrote: > I remember the pre-OV days, just a list of CC's! My daughter took a couple of pictures; you can see them at http://sggardner.photosite.com/concerts/ I admit I like the band's older work better than the recent, but at the concerts they always play 'Locked in a Cage', 'Hey You I Love Your Soul' and 'Invincible' just for me. (oh hush, let me imagine) New Find: Collective Soul, 'Youth' I know, I know, they've been around awhile but have apparently gone independent and released this latest album a few months back; my husband brought it home and said 'you may like this' and bless his heart he had to make a copy of it for his car because I won't give it back. Start to finish, its absolutely brillant; I haven't liked an album this much since Twisted. Next! I've had the privelage of seeing Dave Alvin here locally twice now. It was a fantastic, rockin' time! He's been around long enough to know you've got to spend some time with your fans. So, he did. A very cool guy. I've also seen BoDeans this year, another brilliant show, and my guilty pleasure, Bo Diddley! Best *new* thing? I'd have to say a band out of Nashville called Bonepony. They've played here 3 times in the last year or so. Again, cool guys, with a very cool stage presence. If you can find the album/song "Jubilee" you'll hear it right away. It's good stuff. www.bonepony.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2005 08:49:53 +0100 From: "Wilson Associates" Subject: Re: OV: Recent live gigs? Just discovered Ben Folds this weekend - loving it, really loving it, hope we get the chance to see him over here soon. Also enjoying Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams, perfect during these oh to few lazy hot summer days. Still gotta go a long way to beat Matchbox 20 / Maroon 5 gig at Wembley Arena. That was a great night, worth the extra wait. Thanks for all the heads-up, gotta a whole load of new bands to check out - OVer's never fail me!
