I'm not sure what the band economics look like, but somehow fellow Scots the Trashcan Sinatras have managed to release thier latest album here in the U.S., and they even toured here recently, playing an excellent set at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia (small club, maybe 150 people tops). They also seem to have a good independent marketing setup through their website selling any number of live and rare collections etc. I can't imagine that their fanbase is any larger than Del Amitri's is/was, and I'd guess there's more than a fair amount of overlap in the audiences (like me). I'd have to agree with the theory that Del Amitri's record company problems and the perceived failure of the last album were taken way too personally by the band who at least give the impression that they don't seem to know or care about the passionate support they still retain all over the world. Cheers. - William ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Jul 2005 06:39:31 -0700 (PDT) From: Dave Subject: OV: Everyone OK in the UK? My thoughts and prayers are with our UK members. As an artist, Justin's going to do whatever suits him with or without validation and we have no right to expect anything. However, this list after all, IS called 'oppositeview' --- a forum for Del's comments and appropriate venue to discuss this thread. It's nice to hear from ya'all. I'll have to get out my Del's collection in celebration. I go through cycles where 'it's all or nothing'. Speaking of unreleased material. My computer took a nose dive a few weeks back and took much of my iTunes with it. (Let this be a lesson for ALL to back up ALL of their music files) Can anyone provide me with Justin's latest which was lost in the crash of '05? It was an amazing song. There was a map showing where the Underground bombs had gone off too... How awful, just awful... it seems weak to say it, but I too hope all our UK OVers are okay... Truly terrifying stuff. I'm in Edinburgh - with the G8 summit and protest marches going on on the doorstep, making it a horrible relief that it "wasn't here". My thoughts are with anyone waiting to hear from a London-based close one. Sorry it took so long to get on here and check on my UK friends in the Dels camp. The London office of my company is near Moorgate (right between a few attacks!), so needless to say, I've been picking up a lot of work from them. I've not really had a chance to talk to them about the situation other than to find out that everyone's accounted for and doing well. I trust that everyone here's doing well and know that you've been in my thoughts and prayers today. Take care, debbie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Jul 2005 22:49:29 +0100 From: hangthedj Subject: OV: London 07.07.05 I was evacuated from Kings Cross station, after that bomb hit. The air underground was rank with smoke, people were being led from the tunnels covered in soot and blood. On the surface 1000s of people were on the streets, everyone trying to get away. But at this point we still did not know what was happening, each bus stop was swamped with people still trying to get to work. I headed toward Tottenham Court Road on a back street. A few minutes later I heard a loud explosion, that was the first sign we had that this was not was not just an isolated incident. I carried on walking, but there was such shock on the faces of the people coming the other way. People had seen the bus explode in front of them. I heard one woman say she had been pushed out of the way trying to get on that bus, only then to see it explode. Now people did not know which way to go, as police lines seemed to block every street. I found a way out of the centre and walked home, avoiding all bus routes. Caught up with family and friends, all safe. Through all of this people remained calm, they talked to strangers and tried to make sense of the mess. - -- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 07 Jul 2005 21:50:43 +0100 From: MrJuggles Subject: Re: OV: How are my UK friends holding up? Horrendous day, I've been sat around in jury duty room waiting to be called with all the other potential members. We had the TV on and since Monday it's the first time it's been up loud enough to listen to. No-one talked. After a while several people started to cry, they had relatives up in London. Luckily for me three of my mates picked up their phones and the other two texted me. One of the jurors friends had missed the bomb in the bus by about 10minutes, he was adelivery man. It's a weird weird day all over. MrJuggles ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V7 #76 *********************************
