There is not anything on the radio (hardly...there are always exceptions but you all surely know what I mean) as good as any album the Dels ever did. Consistently great pop songs, great melodies, (great drinking songs!!)...I miss them so much! Any new news at ALL anywhere on the list? Patricia, I will look into that and see if there ever was a US release. I do not have that one but will most certainly take your word for it on how good it is! I know what you mean about feeling a little sad for "things lost." While I like Hatful of Rain very much, I would still have to say that my favorite Dels (although many of you totally disagree with me!) is SOSP! Do not ask me why....just must have been something about the time when I bought it. It still gives me goosebumps! So to reiterate Patricia's question...does anyone know if there was a US release??? I'm feeling dizzy! 6 OV messages...woohoo I've been listening to Lousy With Love a lot lately, just adore Sleep Instead Of Teardrops and In The Meantime never fails to bring a lump to my throat. I must give CYDMG another spin, I think I felt quite deflated by that album, it didn't live up to what I was hoping for. You get the feeling listening to it that they were all too aware that the writing was on the wall. Or is it just me? I was frustrated that Drunk In A Band was never released as a single, whilst not the best track by far I can't believe it wouldn't have attracted more airplay than Just Before You Leave. Last thought...watching Live8 the other night and the ineffectual or oh to self-aware protest songs made me think about Justin and how much better at this he is (or was) (no is, witness the recent offering No, Surrender). For incisive invective and witty lines that cut through the BS, no one holds a candle to Justin. Do you think he is even remotely aware of the hunger out here for his music? In the age of download, surely there is a relatively inexpensive way to reach his ready and waiting audience? Ah, look what you've done, you only gone and got me started again... ;-) - ----- Original Message ----- From: "PATRICIA L. I was thinking the same thing watching the various reunions and such. But sadly, the light that burns twice as bright often burns half as long. I don't think Justin COULD have written the incisive, cutting stuff he did (does?), especially those great bridges (as a songwriter, I LOVE his bridges beyond all else. Listen to "I've had enough bad news" or "Surface of the Moon" off of Change Everything for my favorite examples) if he didn't see himself as a finite, self-destructing entity. Think about it, would you really want him in McCartney land; wheeled out every now and again to wail "Hey Jude" at this or that benefit, and sending some subpar album of filler our way every few years? Surely not. We got what we got, and most never get that. Joel Underwood ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Jul 2005 14:49:55 -0700 From: Susan Gardner Subject: Re: OV: Is this thing on? Ladywiz!! Hey girlfriend - been singing any Beatles tunes this week? (We sang a little backup during 'Twist and Shout' at my son's wedding reception just the other week, and did a whole lot more dancin' that evening than either of us expected - LOL!!) Ah, I like the t-shirt & kilt shot of Currie on that web site of yours, a copy of that hangs in my studio too... But why oh why aren't there some of Michael H. on the web site?? They are simply precious. TTFN Susan ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V7 #74 *********************************
