I'm not writing to knock them at all, but in terms of songwriting and musicianship they're not in the same league as Del Amitri, and as I'm hearing this I'm thinking about Justin's recent comments in the Scotsman (1/20/05) and wondering why there is a place in the music biz for Dogs Die in Hot Cars (and for them to play the USA and live on the radio in Philadelphia) but not Del Amitri. I can't help but think that Justin has somewhat overreacted to the sales of CYDMG; one poor selling record should not require an end to a band as accomplished as they are. - William Kates Apologies if this has already been reprinted here, but here is part of what Justin said in the Scotsman: "Theres no reason to do more Del Amitri because nobody wants it, quite rightly." Despite a string of hits in the late-1980s and early-90s, Del Amitris last album, 2002s Can You Do Me Good?, sold "really badly". "If we needed the money we would flog that dead horse," he says, with refreshing candour, "but we dont." Instead, much to my surprise, hes making what sounds like an electronic pop album with Del Amitris Iain Harvie. "I dont think anybody will like it apart from us." ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Apr 2005 11:58:57 -0600 From: Scott Smith Subject: OV: OT: ammatusk the band In the fine, fine tradition of Dave Sills (we hope), my band Ammatusk has released our first CD. I don't know that it's very "del-ish", but I just thought some of you might like to have a listen.
