Hi list, I just got an email from Alison (from delamitri.com) with a virus attachment. Just wanted to warn you not to open those emails. Alison, I hope you already know that there's a virus on your system. Most likely you've got it deleted by now, but I wanted to warn you. Just in case :-) Dirk ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2004 08:29:00 -0500 From: Alison Bellach Subject: Re: OV: viruses coming, going, coming ... Actually, I don't download my email (I use text-based email on a remote server, which means I can't get viruses), so I am sure this is probably someone else's computer using their list to populate the outgoing names. Additionally, I don't have your email addy stored anywhere, Dirk. I'd suggest that all of you run a virus check on your machines regardless. - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Alison Bellach: alibee@delamitri.com http://alibee.delamitri.com http://www.delamitri.com "If you want peace, work for justice." Just a note - this nasty lil' "Netsky" virus is now on its 25th version and has mutated 4 times just since Sunday (it's now at "Netsky-Y" - http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.netsky.y@mm.html - for info and a removal tool is you get it). This version not only has the ability to change the language it presents itself as (depending on the recipient) but it seems to be targeting universities and other educational systems. Fun. Symantec (parent co of Norton's) has updated their antivirus software daily for the past week, so everyone, err on the side of caution and keep your antivirus definitions up to date, and follow Allison's lead by never opening email attachments, even if you think you know the person - save the attachemnt to your PC and scan it with your antivirus software first, before opening it. Have a happy - going back to the dungeon to lurk... So today I had the unhappy task of going to a colleague's funeral. Weird enough that it was in the exact street that I grew up in, but who do I spot? None other than Mr Iain Harvie... Needless to say, I didn't feel inclined to go ask for an autograph given the situation!
