THE UNCLE DEVIL SHOW LEMON TREE, ABERDEEN, APRIL 9 Apr 18 2004 Pat Barnham HHHHH Clad in zebra skin, this trio belted out some weird lyrics but sadly failed to impress. The crowd were puzzled by tracks such as She Cuts Her Own Fringe, Leonardo's Bicycle, Strange Umbrella and Sidelong Glances of a Pigeon Kicker. The music was as perfect as you'd expect from performers such as Del Amitri's Justin Currie, Jim McDermott and Kevin McDermott of the Kevin McDermott Orchestra but the lyrics and get-up seemed insincere and embarrassing. No one could question Currie's stage presence and sense of humour but this joke was never going to be funny. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2004 13:51:36 +0100 From: "Paul Hancock" Subject: OV: UDS - don't know what people are moaning about So it seems that A terrible beauty is getting rave reviews of the CD but Pants reviews of the live shows.....Odd that.....but Ultimately a good thing I think. From what I've heard of the album's humour is a little strange which I'm all for to be honest. Not got my copy of a terrible beauty yet....ordered it offa Amazon but it says it's not been dispatched yet ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2004 21:22:31 +0000 From: angela hughes Subject: OV: Was He/She There I was there and they were first class, nothing puzzling anyone as all were singing every word.........maybe the folk cowering at the back should've let their hair down and join in the fun.Uck well it was Aberdeen after all, bril venue though. Better than the Glasgow gig by a mile..... Go see them anyone who has the chance, you will not be disappointed. I can't comment for the Aberdeen show - though people on the forums seem to think this was the best of the two - but they went down a storm in Glasgow and everyone appeared to have a great time. People didn't appear puzzled by the songs - in fact the vast majority of the audience seemed to know them all already and were singing along merrily. Reviewers love to knock people so I wouldn't pay too much notice to this guy, Jane > > The music was as perfect as you'd expect from performers such > as Del Amitri's Justin Currie, Jim McDermott and Kevin > McDermott of the Kevin McDermott Orchestra but the lyrics and > get-up seemed insincere and embarrassing. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Apr 2004 13:23:15 -0400 From: "Ed Gledhill" Subject: OV: Re: oppositeview-digest V6 #56 If anyone is interested Minibar put out a second cd called Fly Below The Radar (which is exactly what it seemed to do). It's a pretty good follow up to Road Movies.I saw them in Philadelphia last year with a capacity crowd of about 10 other people. They sounded great.Too bad most folks don't know who they are. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 08:41:57 +0000 From: "Adam Mawby" Subject: OV: UDS Well I've listen to the CD about 5 times now and its really GREAT! The songs are great! Don't really know why the lyrics are getting some critisism, they are not all "failed love" songs but they are not that inaccessible.
