I think every track I heard was fantastic. If anyone has a copy of any of the tracks I would still love someone to send a copy of the tracks. For some reason I couldn't get them to download. But it is their decision to release them (even to the most ardent, loyal, brave, trustworthy, devoted fans) not the fans or anyone elses. You can rationalize it all you want, but if they wanted it done, they could easily do it and since they haven't done so yet.. It doesn't matter how good your intentions are, or honorable your motives or sincere you are about buying everything they release - it is THEIR work, THEIR art and THEIR livelihood. Copying and distributing commercially available work that has not been approved by its creator is wrong. I'm off to photocopy the new Carl Hiaasen novel and post it to my webpage. It's another thing to threaten list members because you're unhappy with their actions. Dirk did only what he thought was right by posting the songs. The minute someone raised its questionability from a band perspective, he took the songs down. End of story. To those who can't let it go: mail me instead. I have no problem deleting your petty threats. - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Alison Bellach: alibee@delamitri.com http://alibee.delamitri.com http://www.delamitri.com "If you want peace, work for justice." ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Oct 2003 11:15:18 EST From: SngWrite1@aol.com Subject: OV: A bit OT: One less label Slighty off topic: Looks like Vivendi Universal Music Group is going to be buying the record division of DreamWorks SKG this week for a cool $100 million. This is the same Universal Music Group that just over a week ago layed off 1400 people to cut costs (blaming it all on internet piracy). So a label that isn't making enough money fires a bunch of people to save money and then spends a bunch of money to buy another label that isn't making any money. And who says the music business is screwed up? A good friend of mine was among those let go by UMG. She said, "If you think it looks screwed up from the outside, you should've seen it from the inside." In the coming months, look for all UMG artist rosters (Interscope, A&M, Geffen, DreamWorks, Island DefJam, MCA, Lost Highway...) to be trimmed again. And don't be surprised if some formerly "big name" artists are among those let go. I'll guess Counting Crows will be one of them - their upcoming "Best of" smells like contractual fulfillment. One more reason why the Dels should go indie or DIY. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Oct 2003 11:01:42 -0800 (PST) From: debbsc67 Subject: Re: OV: RE: MP3 Well, if it's in MP3 format, I'd assume that they mean you would download it from their site, not be mailed an actual disc. I got it here. I'll upload it and give you the links, but not today. Today I'm in the mood to shut down my site forever, but that's a completely different story and does not belong here. Sorry. I'll upload the videos next week. They're pretty cool, not very decent quality, perhaps, but great nevertheless. Thanks for some generous offers to pick out the chords of "I had a drink about you last night". Dave Sills has got them for me, and by the sounds of my guitar he got them right! :-) If you don't mind, Dave, could you post them to the list? I think that more people than just me would be interested in these chords! ;-) And as for the people who keep mailing (off-list and on-list) that, in their opinion, it has been wrong to post the UDS-songs here: HELL, YEAH! I know it has been wrong and I took the songs down just a few hours after they were up! Enough of this, ok? It's fine that you all never did something wrong in your life, but I just did, and I apologize for it, but I cannot get into my time-machine and turn back time, cos' one of the screws fell out yesterday and it's out of order. So please stop your mailings and accept that I'm one of totally morally wrongness, and if you don't have a certificate saying you're the saviour of the innocent and bad, give me some peace and quiet please. In the little bit after he sings "I had a drink about you last night" the last chord actually comes in on the "and" before 4 (one and two and three AND four and) though it is shown as | F / / G |. The bridge was very tricky, so this represents my "best guess". Pete Murray Hi list... you have heard me push Pete Murray's barrow for a while but it seems his hard work is really paying off. Apart from being nominated for two ARIAs (Australian record Industry Award) including best album by a new artist (Beaten by Delta Goodrem... mind you God could have been nominated and lost to her this year) his debut Feeler has now gone Gold, all without the benefit of a single being released. It seems that his label Sony are so impressed the CD will now be released in the US and the UK. Knowing his material I also know that he is priming himself for a brilliant follow up.
