I know I have hardly written to the list much over the last couple of years,
but I guess I had to write after seeing Justin performing in Aberdeen this
past Friday.  Love to all you guys on here that I know - too many of you to
mention.  Sorry I haven't kept in touch much of late, but I plan to put that
straight!
Laura, are you still alive hun???

Anyway, enough of that, on with the gigb&.

The 'Lemon Tree' in Aberdeen is a super little venue.  It's very intimate,
only holding a couple of hundred people.  In my experience the atmosphere has
always been excellent, and tonight was no different.  At 10pm Button Up came
on
stage and played their own stuff for about 10 - 15 minutes.  To be honest, it
wasn't really my cup of tea.  Without doubt these guys are excellent
musicians, it was just their stuff didn't do anything for me.  In fact, it
rather
reminded me of the music you get when the BBC temporarily loose their current
TV
programme and they play background music until it comes back on!  I honestly
couldn't see how Justin was going to fit into this!

However, as the band struck up another number, on swaggered Justin, and he
launched into his first song, then introduced everyone as 'Button Up featuring
Dennis Waterman!'

The first thing to say is that he has grown the most hideous looking
moustache!  It really has to been seen to be believed.  On the positive side,
the
sideburns are back!  He has let his hair grow a bit, and he looked pretty cool
in
a back suit and tie, although his choice of tan shoes was a little bizarre,
although very Justin!

I didn't recognise many of the songs.  They were all cover versions.  There
was one by Betty Ray (?) called 'Cleaning Up Woman', and another by Gil Scott
Heron - 'Home Is Where The Hated Is'.  The majority of the rest, he said, were
mainly by female black artists.  I have to say he sang them bloody
brilliantly.  The first couple were strange, but I reckon it was just me
getting used to
him singing Blues and Jazz numbers.  Once I got into it, I lapped it up.  His
voice was in really fine order - he hit the high notes well, and was in all
round good form.  It was clear that he has a real passion for these songs, as
he
continually gushed about them between numbers.  Strangely, he didn't seem to
forget the words once!

He also joked around with the audience, and took part in some dodgy dancing
steps during the guitar solos.  It was funny to see him stand on the monitor,
in his usual Del Amitri style pose, made to look all the more strange by the
lack of a bass guitar!  He was clearly enjoying himself.

Justin also won some money this evening!  After about the 9th or 10th number,
one woman shouted out 'Please play something by Del Amitri', to which there
was all round laughter from Justin and the band.  It appears they were running
a bet to see how long it takes the audience to request a Dels number!

All to soon the gig was over.  Disappointingly, there was no encore.
However, they did all came through to the bar afterwards, and mingled with
those of
us who remained.  I managed to grab a quick word with Justin, and told him
that
I really enjoyed the gig, to which he said 'I appreciate that a lot'.  I
questioned him about the moustache, but he didn't really make any comment on
it.
Soon the conversation descended into a young woman asking if he remembered
signing her cleavage after a Dels gig a couple of years ago, to which he said
'I
have been thinking and longing for you ever since!'

I wanted to ask him about Del Amitri, but it was pretty apparent that as far
as he was concerned tonight was about Button Up.  Fair enough I guess.  Justin
said he wasn't going into town later with the band as he has to really rest
his voice.  I'm not sure, but I got the impression that it was hurting him a
little.

The rest of the band were really friendly, and even said hello and shook my
hand a couple of hours later when we met them in a nightclub!  Now that's what
I call appreciating your fans!

Anyway, that's about it - all in all a great evening.  Good music, and Justin
in fine form.  Fingers crossed this inspires him to give the Dels one last
throw of the dice.

Just a short post as I am still extremely hungover!!

Last night was absolutely excellent...I met Justin yesterday afternoon and
spoke for a while with him.he seemed a bit down cos there hadn't been many
people at Aberdeen but he was really nice and signed my ticket. The gig was
brilliant! I must say I hadn't expected to enjoy it but I thought it was
fantastic and my 3 friends who I had dragged along agreed it was great! Iain
was there too and was chatting with everyone.
After the gig everyone went to the pub and Iain and Justin were there...I
spoke with Iain for a while and I may be talking through a sambucca induced
haze but I'm sure he said they are going to release a soundboard recording of
the second gig at the Barras last year.

I thouroughly enjoyed myself and got to put a lot of faces to names of all the
list members and that was great.there was a really good atmosphere in the pub

Anyway...thats about enough from me

Back to bed for Clara!

So is there any chance the rest of us poor mortals will be blessed with a new CD some time this year - be it Dels or semi-Dels (sorry but it's past midnight here..)?
