Completely OT here but Exene Cervenka is the ex-wife of the rather delicious Viggo Mortensen, whose Aragorn in Lord of The Rings, if I remember correctly, was thought to bear a resemblance to Justin by a few people here. What this has to do with anything is beyond me but just thought I'd mention it.... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jul 2003 16:24:14 -0400 (EDT) From: owner-oppositeview@smoe.org Subject: OV: "The uncle devil show" or "neat pop songs that I will hear once and will be bored then" From: Dirk.Wonhofer@eberle-augsburg.de Date: Wed, 16 Jul 2003 10:07:27 +0200 Sender: owner-oppositeview@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hello together, I don't know if I'm the only one on this list who didn't enjoy the two new songs. Yeah, it's definitely good to hear Justin's voice again, but to be honest, I think I better stuck with the old tunes instead of listening to this poppy crap. The new songs are neat and somehow funny, but that's just the kind of music that's on the radio (and this is the reason I don't listen to the radio). So I have to admit: I don't like these new songs. They're better than most of the songs that are played on the radio, but that's not very difficult to achieve nowadays. So where's my Justin with just an acoustic guitar and his voice? Where's on of the greatest storyteller's on earth? Is he gone forever? bye, Dirk ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jul 2003 22:38:56 +0100 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: OV: Re: "The uncle devil show" or "neat pop songs that I will hear > So where's my Justin with just an acoustic guitar and his voice? > Where's > on of the greatest storyteller's on earth? I feel I can actually see the lady he's singing about in her flat living her life. I have a friend who's been a huge fan of Gilbert O'Sullivan since the '70's and has become a big Dels fan (alas too late) over the past year. I sent her the song and she really loved it. I'm waiting to hear what other G O'S fans think. I do agree it's a bit poppy - but catchy - maybe another Roll To Me type song. I rather like it. I think as we've been starved of anything sign of life from the Dels since their dumping from the mercury label - we will accept ANYTHING with even the most remote link to them as something to be excited about. At the moment it's hearing Justin's voice on the UDS tracks! I think if Justin sang the tune for the next Tellytubbies TV show we'd all be jumping up for joy. At the end of the day I'll buy the CD because I like to hear Justin's voice and like to follow his and the other Del lads musical adventures. I do hope though, we see another DEL AMITRI record - in ANY shape or form before too long. Otherwise I fear Justin/Iain will have forgotten how good it was/is. Long live Del Amitri! Bring back the accoustic guitar! Ciao Alessandro Quoting Jane Armstrong : > Not sure I entirely agree here. I must admit I wasn't too impressed with GO but the minute I heard SCHOF I thought it was excellent. Although JC's voice obviously helps, I actually think that song's more like the Dels we used to know than CYDMG was. Although I do like CYDMG and it will al ways have a place in the Dels history, I would definately rather hear more of this in the future and less of the synth. I think all you's need is an accordian or harmonica to be thrown in and you'll be happy. Wait for the album and see how you like the ones sung by Kev, then you'll be able to say if it's just the voice or not. >From: Alessandro Campobassi >To: Oppositeview@smoe.org >Subject: OV: Re: "The uncle devil show" to listen or not to listen? >Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 09:48:43 +1000 > >I kind of agree with Dirk. I think they are both brilliant. Give 'em a chance. During my very first listen of CYDMG I wasn't too impressed, but now a lot of the songs from it are on my "listen to daily" playlist. More than are from waking hours and change everything. You've got to move on, you can't keep belting out "spit in the rain" 10 years later or everyone is going to lose interest, including the band themselves. Don't be scared of evolution. Perhaps - now free of record label pressures - Justin is making the kind of music he always wanted to?
